I just stumbled across this next gen Mazda2 render. It's obviously not real, but man I actually like it, like a lot. Kinda has a Fiat vibe to it. Hell if it had a Fiat badge I bet it would sell pretty well as a 500 d door.

The actual next gen 2 is pretty great also, but I generally dislike the idea of a every car that a company makes needs to look like they are just different size variations of the same car.

You, sir, have uncovered the truth of modern design language: Brand Face. It seeks to strip cars of their unique design identity, instead plastering not only the same grille and headlights across every model, but the same proportions and surface language as well. It gives designers like zero wiggle room, which is why I don't like it. Particular offenders are Audi and, to some degree, Aston Martin. Although I really can't fault them for using such a beautiful template.

Yeah Audi and BMW pretty much started, the whole brand image of creativity thing. almost every Audi or BMW for the last 30 years has looked like the rest or the line up, which the exception of a few sportscars, like the TT, Z3/Z4, 850ci, and a few others.

This bothers me. The car is a tub (and I don't mean that in a negative way), so quit trying to obfuscate it with styling that suggests otherwise. Unless you make your window follow this line more closely, it's just wrong.

Well, Aston Martin only really has one car. The DB9, Vantage, Vanquish...all the same thing underneath. Only the Rapide is seriously different, and even then only because it has four doors.

I get what your saying it does kinda look like a boring hatchback poking out of the lower half of a sportier car.

Agreed - the render looks soooo much better :D

And I don't believe in the whole "brand identity" car family looks non sense.

Its impossible to make a design language that everyone likes. If you design different cars differently - chances are that if people don't like one car, they'll like the other. And then they'll take a closer look and say "Oh thats a Mazda? I don't really like the 3, but the 2 looks sharp"

Ya know?

and you can build a brand identity and image without making all your car's look exactly the same. Just look at Ford. The Fiesta, focus, fusion and escape, all look very similar bat are not copies. Or S better any saab from the 900 to the last gen 9-5. Every saab looks like a saab they simply could be anything else. Even the 97x ans 92x which aren't really Saabs.
