Hey, remember that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? A model conceived for people who thought new BMW's cost a lot more than they used to ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ), and wanted a more affordable entry into the BMW brand (but didn't want a 2-series for some reason). The result was a de-tuned 2.0 320i that you could get with almost no options for a few nickles off the base price of a 328. The most important difference for Jalopnik readers? The numbers of the model finally matched the engine displacement!

Apparently that idea was such a rousing success that Mercedes decided to jump in on the unofficial-Jalopnik-co-branding action! Well, not really. But they did bring the floor of the new C-class down a notch with this spartan-spec C160. Just like the 320i, the numbers on the trunk match what's under the hood, because this new base model is getting a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder petrol engine developing 129 hp. Those are Miata numbers if you squint! Even more intriguing is that this engine will only be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. And it will be available in wagon form. No word on their selection of brown colors yet, but I'm sure there will be a nice shade of Mocha or Pecan available. Oh, and you notice I said "petrol" earlier, and not "gas?" That's because in a classic Jalopnik twist, the car is only destined for Europe. Too bad. Or not - let's be real, no one would have bought it here anyways.
So in summary, it's this:
plus this:
which will set you back 33,349 tea-drinking euros.
Have fun reading the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Out loud in angry angry German, if you want. I'm not here to tell you what to do.

It's not on the used market, so it isn't as Jalop as it could be. If they'd listed it on BaT or Craigslist with a price of about 5,000 dollars, co-branded it with Volvo, and installed a roof rack on every model, then it would be the ultimate Jalopwagon.
Regardless, I still want one. Well found.
