So last night I decided to give this movie a fair shake. The last time I saw it was possibly back in 2007 when it was released on DVD. It did nothing for me and I had deemed that this movie was the worst of the franchise. Upon further review it is one of the better films of the franchise. It has a LEGIT car scene and actually a realistic vibe to the environment.

While all the others are pretty much heist movies with cars this one was a real movie with a bit of a story. No heists, military involvement and only one explosion. Man that doesn't even sound like it belongs in the franchise now does it?

So to everyone that hasn't seen that movie in a long time I advise you watch it again. It's a nice change of pace and is a legit movie that is about the cars and characters equally. The cars aren't just a back drop in this movie.

Also fun fact. Tanner Foust was the stunt driver for DKs black 350Z.

Weirdly, this is the only one I actually own, because it was $7 on display in the market checkout line many years ago. I like it.

The only reason I watched it is because I was looking through my old DVD shelf and it just popped up out of nowhere. I think my sister left it up here many years ago back accident. We also own 2 Fast 2 Furious. Ahhh the classics. I'm surprised how much I ragged on this movie. Guess I was too young to truly understand car culture at the time but now that I do and have been to a few scenes I can appreciate the quality of the environment and feel of the movie.

I always have a hard time explaining myself on this one... But between the very car centric story (which you described well) and the way I always felt that it would eventually be a major focus of the over all story i just felt like it was a very well planned interlude to a greater story that was happening with the first two and those that followed. I think that for a franchise of 7 movies it would be very difficult for them to have a unique story, which was the case for the first two which were very similar and the last 3 which again are very much the same idea... But Tokyo drift was just there, like the mortar between these two separate story styles. And it was different from it all, new characters, new driving style, (which...like it or not, helped drifting take off here, I rember seeing the falken Silvia tandem drift with the fallen gto on some random station at three in the morning several months after Tokyo drift came out and now look where that style of motorsport is here)....I digress.

Along with all that han and Sean were awesome characters and despite a couple "cheesey" moments they played convincing, fun and engaging characters.

Don't get me wrong... I love all of the fast movies, they are a total guilty pleasure, but Tokyo drift will, at least up to now, be my go to fast movie.

MY order is 5,1,3(Tokyo drift),4,6,2. Yes I own all of them and yes I'm not ashamed to say it. I'm a huge F&F fan.

Tokyo drift is not my favorite one but it is the one I watch the most. I probably watch it once every 2-3 months. This has to do with my fascination with Japan more than any thing. But MCM Turbos & Temples is my go to Japanese flick.

Aquila121 did a great write up on Tokyo Drift a while ago. It's a good read, and also makes the same point you have.

I quite like TD as well. Han specifically makes that movie for me. I am very sad to see him leave the franchise.
