Thanks for taking the suggestion, almighty logo-changing wizards!
I would have gladly sent over an eps file if you'd asked.

We've actually had the logo sitting in the hopper for a while now :)

Cool! Not to nitpick, but the color split is bugging me...if you want linework for the above, just ask ;)

Yes, not me, but a supplier on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/228584… Are you that guy? I'll just buy from him, if that's you. If not, I hope to get some from https://www.etsy.com/people/Rachell… who I've purchased from before.
This def needs stickerized, and you've made a wonderful logo for any BMW owner.

Huh, that guy is making a profit off my artwork without my consent. I implore you not to buy it from him. I think it may be Oppo user e92m3 . Really not cool.
I made the logo purely for the purpose of being used as a logo for Oppositelock's site. That shop is selling those stickers without my permission and with no credit given to me. This is really upsetting. In light of this I don't want to give anything away to anyone. I may look into ways of making stickers available in the future, in a legal freaking manner, making sure not to infringe on the creator of the original Oppo logo's rights.

That guy has taken down the logo using the M color design. I disagree with your level of upsetness, but to each his own. That guy was not getting rich off your design, he probably sold 2 or 3 and made 2 or 3 bucks, total. He was just offering what a few people wanted. I can't imagine the demand being high at all.
Did I want a sticker? Yes, will you make it happen? Unlikely. I'll respect your wishes, logo for the site only. Got it.
Again, you had a great idea.

Thanks. Look, my response may seem out of proportion at first, but it's the principle of the thing. He didn't ask, he didn't give credit. The honorable thing to do would have been to ask permission. Had he done that first, I may have said yes. I know people who have vinyl cutters and sell stickers for some side cash. Was he getting rich off that sticker? No. But when he posted a link on Oppo to sell those stickers, he had people, other designers, reach out to him, saying "hey, that's a great design, and a great idea, let's collaborate on automotive-themed stickers and shirts." Will anything come of that? Probably not, I certainly hope not.
Logo for the site only? Not necessarily. If someone wanted to make a sticker or two to use on their own car, I'd be fine with that. I assumed that's what you wanted to do, and I was about to send you the linework, before you kindly informed me of that etsy shop. Selling it without permission or credit - that's crossing a line. Doesn't matter if he sells one or a million. I don't think I'm being a dick about this.
I'm glad you found the idea appealing, and clearly so did a few other people. After all this I'm left quite motivated to find a route to sell these, and others I've made in the past for fun.

I do agree, he should have asked for permission. That's easily the right thing to do, and I'm all for that. I don't think you're being a dick.
Ok, get to work, I'm sure there's 3 more of us out there that want a M themed OPPO logo. :)

I gave him no credit for the design; I knew he'd recreated it from the header. Dusty gave you no credit for the OPPO header either, fwiw... Said they'd already had it done and ready for the header when you posted this. My desire to collaborate with him came solely from the fact that he has the equipment and materials and distribution experience that would supplement my ability to create original designs.
I'm completely on board with you about someone stealing original artwork for profit, but all things considered, I think this is a mountain/molehill situation.

He didn't recreate it from the header though. He took it from my posting, detail for detail. I originally made the thing for oppo to use as a header, and stated so in the original post. I posted it before the header change. I did post a very large crisp image - not vector format, but still crisp, which would have been very easy to work from. Oppo changed it a few days later to their own version, which fwiw, looks like it was done very quickly and simply, and is all kinds of wrongly-cropped. The one that was stickerized was mine. Yes, mountain/molehill, etc.. I just want to make it absolutely clear what happened. Very small situation, agreed. But in this sticker-cutting etsy world, it's common for work to "walk around". It just bugged me, is all.

I hear you - it probably would have irked me, too - and while he definitely should have cleared it with you, I do think he was just trying to provide these as a nice thing for OPPO at cost, not trying to take credit for your work or profit from it.

Hi wbizarre. My friends are the people at imadethis vinly . They have been doing oppo stickers since the beginning and we got approval from both the admins here and from the guys at Jalopnik. They like your design and are wondering if they could print some of these are they have received a few requests for m-colored oppo stickers.
I just read about someone doing it without permission. We also ran into that trouble when we were first getting approval for print the oppo stickers. We asked the people if they wanted them before asking for permission and in the time it took us to get approval some people had already posted them for sale (without getting approval) and scooped some of the early sales. In the end they were cool about it and pulled their listings.
They would be happy to give you credit on their page for the design you created and if you give them your contact info they would happily forward any messages intended for you.

Hey 6cyl, thanks for reaching out! I’d be glad to let out those stickers. Full disclosure, I did recently start looking into ways of cutting and selling stickers myself, but realistically that’s a long-term side project that may or may not happen. But for now it’d be great to have you guys print it! I’d appreciate just an “art by” line in the description, and maybe a couple stickers if they can spare some. ;) I still have the EPS file that I can send over if you put me in touch with them.
Thank you for going about this in the right way! It doesn’t take much.

Sounds good. They said they will be happy to give you the credit for the design. Is there an email they can reach you at? Also you should be able to contact them through their esty page but I don’t know if you need a account to do so.

Hey, this is totally unrelated, but you were doing an ITB conversion on your M20, right? I’ve been really curious about that project, but that post was a while ago. Did you ever get the chance to make progress on it since your initial post? Just curious. Best of luck!

I still have all parts but the body of the car got pretty bad with rust. I am picking up a new body this weekend. This summer I am going to swap the motor/drivetrain from my current car into the new body then build and install megasquirt3. Then start back up on the itb project. I might sell off the parts I have now and just buy the RHD kit that just came out last year. It clears the brake booster and it really nice quality. Still not sure yet.
