We got a recall letter from GM today (hold the jokes you fuckers, not in the mood) not for the Silverado, but for the still somewhat recently departed Vue.

It for the fucking transmission. The 3-5-R waveplate would crack or fracture and fail. In other words, EXACTLY what was wrong with ours and why we traded it in.

Kinja'd!!!

Four months too late. If they would have sent this damn thing back in Decmeber we would still have the first car I've ever driven and loved. I'm annoyed to say the least. Dammit.

I'm hoping that Ford will still live up to the old recalls on my 93 CV when I get it back on the road for some free Fixes.

Sorry about your issue though.

That's unfortunate man, wish it could've saved your beloved Vue.

To be fair, we got recall notices for our Impala 3 years after we got rid of it. We traded it in to a Chevy dealer...

If you have good records you might be able to get GM to pay for any repairs you had done related to this. Possible silver lining.

That's a GM/Ford joint venture transmission.

Parents traded it in before anything went wrong completely. We knew something in the transmission was failing and they traded it before they had to suffer the (very) expensive repair bill.

If GM was GM-ing then we wouldn't have gotten one until the Ford was paid off in 2020. Or never.

If they delivered it on time, they would have had to fix it.

From the wording in the letter, it seems like they are just increasing the warranty, not redesigning the part. If that's the case, the same part could fail again after their extended warranty ends, leaving everyone back at square one.

Heh...I got a recall notice yesterday. Parking brake cable something or other...don't care, going to try to con my way into a test drive of a Camaro or Corvette while it's there.

In 2010 they did revise the transmission and none of those have had issues from what my research showed. I'd guess/hope they'd put the revised part in there.

Sounds like a solid plan. Given its probably something silly like poor factory adjustment on the cable or something.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
04/02/2015 at 17:55

Kinja'd!!!1

No, it's a clip that might be missing which would cause the boot to come loose and let water get in and freeze.

It sounds excessively stupid.

I know right?

It's hard to hate on any 1 single manufacturer anymore. They're all in it together. For example, very recently, BMW used GM 6 speed rwd auto transmissions in alot of their cars. Vues had Honda V6s. List goes on and on.

You're right, they did revise the transmission in 2010. I'm wondering if the new part is backwards compatible with the pre-2010 transmission. I would assume so, but I don't know for sure.

Damn, that sort of sucks...

Hopefully the new owner hears about the issue though so they can get it sorted out, assuming it's not too late.

The Fusion uses the same transmission, but in lighter-duty form.... Good thing they revised the design in 2010. Hopefully it doesn't fail.

ATTENTION LOGANSTENO

Hi. I am the GM representative who sent you the recall letter. Please send the letter back, as the paper it's made of has a tendency to explode when exposed to water (don't ask, I have no idea how we managed that either)

Again, we NEED you to send the letter back. Do not throw it away or otherwise dispose of it, as it is hazardous to you and those around you. We respectfully regret sending you a recall letter and then recalling the recall letter, but we promise the next recall letter will not be in need of recalling.

-Sincerely, General Motors

Kinja'd!!!1

Yep, it seems to have been around since at least 2012 from what I've seen on the forums.

TSB Number: PIP-4327A

Owners of 2007-2009 Saturn Aura and Outlook, and 2008-2009 Saturn Vue equipped with the 6T70/75 6-speed automatic transmission may experience no reverse and slip/flare/harsh shifts in 3rd and/or 5th gear. Codes P0776 Clutch Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 2 Stuck Off and P0842 Transmission Fluid Pressure (TFP) Switch 1 Circuit Low Voltage may be set.

The 35R clutch wave plate may be broken, allowing the piston to overstroke, causing the piston to leak and resulting in loss of apply on vehicles with greater than 25,000 miles.

During the repair process it is important to install the wave plate in the proper orientation to prevent the possibility for the failure to re-occur. Install the rounded edge of the new wave plate internal splines facing the 35R piston.

NOTE: The same TSB applies to 2007-2009 GMC Acadia, 2007-2009 Pontiac G5, 2008-2009 Pontiac Torrent, 2008-2009 Buick Enclave, 2008-2009 Chevrolet Equinox and Malibu, and 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, equipped with the 6T70/75 6-speed automatic transmission (RPO MH2, MH4, MH6 and MY9).

They just didn't hit the failure percentage they needed yet to launch a full recall at that time would be my guess.

Kinja'd!!! Boxer_4 > ly2v8-Brian
04/02/2015 at 21:43

That, and it would also allow them to build up an inventory of the required part at a more relaxed pace.
