So last night I found an oil leak coming from my Oil Level Sensor on the oil pan. Its a 90 dollar part that I cant afford to replace right now and I'm losing a pint of oil every 350 miles or so. The leak:
So today I went and got some RTV and brake cleaner and did a terrible job smothering the bung with it after I cleaned off the area:
Its only a temporary fix until I can scrounge up the cash to buy a new sensor.
I also put my topper back on. I had some trouble putting it back on because the previous owner affixed it to the bed with a bunch of these:
You should have seen the look the guy at the topper dealer gave me when I showed him how it was attached.
I had some rattles that I thought was the heat shield. Now, I'm not thinking that so much. So I went to a local topper dealer, and payed 20 bucks for a used set of proper brackets, but I had to cut my bed liner to attach them properly.
Anyway I had a busy day and I hope that RTV holds long enough for me to get a new sensor. I'm just a bit bummed that I cant drive my truck until tomorrow afternoon because of the RTV fix, it has to cure.

That really sucks. But at least it should hold for a while.

You have a leak at your oil level sensor. I have a leak at: Both Valve covers-hasn't been fixed because you pretty much have to tear down the entire upper end of the engine bay to get to them and nobody got time fo dat, The entire oil pan gasket-hasn't been fixed because the engine needs pulled to do that and nobody got time fo dat, Both front and rear main seals-Same reason as oil pan, Even the oil plug itself leaks because Ford.
Nothing's been fixed because altogether they are such slow leaks that I only need to add oil when it's due for a change every 4000 miles. And If I'm pulling the motor out, it's to replace with a 5.0 which I don't have.
TL;DR You're concerned about one leak, while I have many that don't concern me in the least. Step up your Ranger game.

I got lucky, my truck had alot of work done to it before I got it.
Clutch 9/14
Brakes 6/14
Diff Seal 4/14
Rear Main Seal 5/12
This leak isnt that slow though, by the time I need an oil change, I would have added half my engine's oil capacity simply due to the leak.
And:
And If I'm pulling the motor out, it's to replace with a 5.0 which I don't have.
Same here, but I only have 107k miles so I wanna get every bit of life out of this 4.0

I only have 130k on my 3.0, which probably has tons of life left in it since they can be cockroaches.

TBF, my engine is more of a cockroach than yours, but compared to anything else, they both are really. My engine could go to 400k if I tried really hard

The 3.0 will never die. Mine has 268,000 on it and is still going strong.

Ahh, thought it was an oil pressure sender. Why an oil level sensor? What does that do that the dipstick doesn't? Unless it makes your dash light up light a christmas tree, I'd probably just seal it off with a bolt.

It just sends a signal to the check oil light. I may try to take it off and rtv it from the inside, maybe save myself 90 bucks
