here are the requirements in no particular order:
- 4 doors
- automatic :(
- must be new
- under 50k, preferably under 45k
- fun to drive
- preferably cloth or recaro seats
- no trucks
- comfortable, not too small
Currently considering a Gti with performance pack or charger rt.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Charger RT, Chevy SS, or a Golf GTI all seem like good options.

My boss just got a used (lightly) 2013 S4 audi for 40k and it only had 10k on the dash ! Automatic .. makes little blurble noises on up and down shifts like the new F type especially in sport mode. Comes with leather standard and everything is nice.. I've been in his car a few times and am blown away at the action on the buttons .. I know I know a weird thing to get excited about but when the windows of a car go up and down with a button its nice when that button is as well engineered as possible.
And .. It's a bosses car !

That leaves a lot of open space. Without knowing your particular tastes or if you are even in the US, I have been leaning more and more towards the USDM. I know this is not a very popular opinion around here but the Charger Skat Pack starts at $39k and you can get the SRT for under $50k. Also the Cadillacs have really caught my attention. You can't get a V for that price, but you can still have a nice comfortable car.

A higher tier 3 series would at least be worth checking out. There's also the Chevy SS.

How much are S4s where you are I assume you're not in the UK since you would of just gone Skoda Octavia VRS since we seem to have some weird love for those things over here.

So under $50k? That gives you quite the choices in cars. 3 of which immediately come to mind in 4 door. In my particular order:
1. Audi S4. Big enough, fast enough, fun to drive, all wheel drive and good solid car
2. Merc CLA45. Big enough, fast for a 4banger, but seems a bit gaudy
3. Subaru WRX STI. Smaller, but fast with flappy paddles.
I'd say the BMW M235i as a choice, but it is 2 door. It is fast, beautiful and has a great BMW warranty package.

Dodge Charger Scat Pack is calling your name. 4 doors, automatic, comfortable and spacious. 470hp engine and can be had with nicely bolstered cloth seats, well equipped for slightly over 40 grand.
Though you may have to custom order it. They're not very commonly found on dealer lots at this point, and every single one I've seen has had the leather seats option. Looking at about 8 weeks delivery if you order.

Well they are both Golfs underneath but the Octavia's whole thing is how spacious it is inside compared to rest of the VW group's hatches.

The Octavia is definitely the biggest of all the Golf brothers but it's still not that much bigger. However it uses the space really well imo.

To be fair, it is quite quick (under 6 seconds to 60) and extremely nice inside.
