Whether this is absolutely and completely bogus or actually somehow incomprehensibly legit, it's quite entertaining to read. My money's on the former. Smoke screen?!
Why didn't you invite Doug DeMuro?
"We would have, but he misspelled Cannonball Baker's first name in his Jalopnik piece about Bolian. It's Erwin Baker, not Edwin. He claimed Baker's 53:30 time went unbeaten for 40 years. It was broken in 1971, which is actually 38 years. After Yates/Gurney set the 1971 record of 35:54, Demuro says "the record was slowly whittled down over the next decade." The last Cannonball was in 1979, which is eight years. This type of story requires attention to detail. My teammates expect it of me. I expect it of them. My thoughts on Demuro? To quote Christian Bale when he was yelling at the guy on the set of Terminator Salvation…' you're a nice guy, you're a nice guy, but that don't fucking cut it when you're fucking around! ' Use Google, meine bisschen ."

What say you, Doug?

Good bet.
"Cribbing a trick from myself – first used on the 2003 Gumball 3000 – I decided to hedge my bets by purchasing eight pocket editions of the Bible (King James Edition), the Torah and the Koran, for total of twenty-four holy books. One each for Ledet, Maher and myself, one to give away as a gesture of beneficence, and four of each holy book to use as wheel chocks in case of the failure of our emergency brake. "

I think JB has some sort of weird anti-Doug obsession.

Doug recommended this post; I'm hoping he'll chime in with a comment.

Nah - he's too classy ;)
I like Jack Baruth too, I'm guessing he is just insanely competitive.

Some people just don't get along. Clearly there was some kind of work-related dispute at TTAC between the two of them that ended poorly. Hope they can bury the hatchet at some point. Honestly, JB's dig on Doug in his post today just seemed a bit petty...

Dude! The guy who actually chimed in was an impostor! He had registered "dougdernuro.kinja.com" (as opposed to my own dougdemuro.kinja.com) and had copied my avatar and display name. Obviously we banned him, but the weird thing is that his post was so mild, I was originally thinking I had written it! ( "When did I...?" )
Anyway, I have no real comment on the Jack/Alex thing except to say I'm interested to see if it's real or just an April Fool's joke. Would be super cool if it actually happened and I'd love to see the car in person!

What?! That's crazy... Pretty funny that he answered so believably and not ridiculously, like you'd think a scammer/poser would.
I has to be a joke... right? It's all so off the rails, but the dual controls idea is brilliant!
Does Alex have any beef with you? That bit honestly makes me think it is all Jack (with an assist from Mr. Roy to lend some credibility).

It was such a credible answer that I briefly considered leaving it! I was like 'yeah, that's kind of what I would say.' Haha.
I think Alex was rightfully upset when Ed broke his record, and I think even he would admit he came down a little hard on me for it. I never quite understood why — I always felt he was shooting the messenger a bit.
With that said, everyone says really nice things about Alex, I loved Alex's book (I read it on a plane and when the plane landed I actually stayed behind at the gate to finish it), and from what I've heard he's been fairly level-headed when discussing me to others, so I have no anger towards him. I've never met him in person, but I would really love to.

I think you should make it happen.
And I think I should read his book (and yours!).

And now I know about this "M5Power" thing, apparently a youthful indiscretion.
"I wish I was awesome an internet troll as M5Power." Ha!
