Won't be able to make it this Sat :(. Had some time to build out that series I was talking to you about, there should be a couple of cars in the garage you can test. Working on the rest this afternoon.

Cool, we can test them out tonight or after the race. Do you have a list of the cars so we know what to look for when we're in the club garage?

I wasn't able to do as many as I planned plus there aren't any more spots in the garage. Right now it's the 87 trans am and 79 z28. I have 3 more ready to go.

I'll be there. Managed to snag 2:29.5 after 17 practice laps without having to bump the Fairlady up past B450. Pretty pleased with that.

Yeah should be fine. I only hit 2:29.5 like twice in twenty laps; Suzuka's a bitch because of the esses. Mess them up and it kills your whole lap time.

You know the Fairlady: I'll nail the esses, but get smoked on every straight.
Also, that fucking hairpin. Just kill me.

I hate that hairpin so much.

*next checkpoint* +3:34:18.823
Faaack.

Ok, I've been running my own 10-lap practice sessions with B450-B499 A.I. drivers set to 'professional'. Running in traffic, I only dip down into the 2:29's a handful of laps. So far I've managed to finish ahead of everything except that damned BMW Z8. I can pass him for a brief period, but I can never get enough of a lead on him where he doesn't pass me on the next straight.
It's also helped me learn where passing zones are and aren't. About the 5th time I got railroaded by a Challenger, It sunk in that the middle section of the Esses are not a feasible option for a passing zone, haha.

I'm getting confused with all these times, last couple weeks you've said 4:30 and ended up racing 8:30 my time and your saying 4:30 again this week yet its 8:37 now with no racing going on, stupid time zone differences :/

Ohhh because of Daylight Savings time here in the US. On March 8th we moved our clocks back an hour so the race starts an hour later than usual now, that's why there's been some confusion.

Yeah the first turn, the two turns right before the bridge, the hairpin, and maybe 130R are the only places I've found to pass on Suzuka. The esses are just asking for trouble lol. I'm betting a lot of contact regardless, I never really noticed how Suzuka is always curving. The run to 130R and the front straight are the only true straights on the whole track.

Someone else in the club garage added like 8 cars last night so that's why the garage showed up full. I moved 10 cars out so you should be good to add all the cars you want.

I can take 130R flat-out, so that's been a pretty reliable as an outside passing point for me. Scary moment earlier where I passed one car on the outside and swung inside to pass another to avoid rear-ending it, lol.

04/04/2015 at 22:03 | 0 |
I'm all for the next series being a locked, fixed PI. I got my butt handed to me in the GT series, but it certainly motivated me to be a better driver. I learned to tune, turned off the ABS, started watching replays, (figured out where there isn't sticky grass) and did a lot more testing to see what car worked for me.
Maybe all the series shouldn't be fixed, and could make for a BOP, but maybe we could have a "hardcore" fixed PI series running at the same time as others maybe?
Regardless of what you decide, I greatly appreciate you organizing these races.
SVTyler
> Autofixation
04/04/2015 at 23:09 | 0 |
It'll obviously be a group decision but personally I'm leaning towards keeping BoP adjustments for all series so that the more casual people can just show up and race without needing to put in all that work or getting frustrated and ragequitting (remember all the dude who only showed up for one race?). I'm not going to go full Bernie or anything so if everyone else wants another, non-BoP series I'd be totally fine with that too, but with how well the current series are going I don't really see a need to change anything.
And you're welcome, these races are my favorite part of the weekend and I'm glad people dig them as much as I do.

The Jägerbimmer needs to dial it back a bit broski. 2 seconds faster than the max lap time is a bit much.

Meant forwards but yeah, turns out your guys' clocks change a few weeks after ours so that's why there was the discrepancy. Gotta be honest, never really thought I'd have to worry about the UK's DST practices while racing in Forza.

not the only one broski. And i did. Spent time tuning before the race, consistently got in 2:29's with a couple dips into the 28's. Figured that would be right. Proved to be much faster in race, I was hitting every turn perfectly so that is probably why it dipped so low.

Just added the cars! All tested and running between 2:05.2 and 2:05.7. Take them out when you get a chance. The performance is a little drastic with the race tires so I'm considering going to sport tires, adding some weight back, and not using the full roll cage for a "pro-mod" type of series. They're fun now but I could go for a little more oppo...

Exactly, if I got some esses wrong I was in the mid-high 28s at best. The track is quite interesting that way it seems. I'll pay closer attention to that when setting up my muscle car.

Where was the post race? Or were you referencing last weeks?
As far as dialing it back.. It's going to be pretty tough to ask everyone to put the time in to building their car to your lap time if someone is consistently going 50-some PI over and blowing people out of the water.. We've all been too fast, but we sure didn't show up the next week and do the same things.. It's a game, it's not something to get worked up over, but how can we honestly build to match the time when we know someone else isn't?
SVTyler
> TopSirloin

I have yet to post it for last week's race, should be up tomorrow sometime.
The short answer is you can't, but if everyone has the "well so-and-so has a 50PI bonus and is lapping too fast, might as well give myself something extra too" mentality it's going to turn into an arms race and we're all going to end up at 600PI and the racing still won't be any closer. If (and it's a big if) everyone follows the rules then we shouldn't have any problems; I've individually messaged the main offenders but if anyone's still lapping too fast I'm taking off points this week, last race was just idiotic.
To be honest I didn't really consider how severe some people's BoP adjustments would need to be. Also thought people would actually care enough to practice and get better at the game and/or tuning instead of using the adjustments as a crutch but that's apparently not happening. Is it a perfect system? No, but it's lightyears ahead of our non-BoP GT car season last year where people were winning by like 35 seconds over second place and waiting five minutes for the backmarkers to finish. Ask Kampfmesser sometime how he liked getting lapped every single race.
I think last week was just an isolated incident. If you look at the Sunset Peninsula race two weeks ago when the top four cars would've finished within a second of each other or at Le Mans when the first three or so were only like three seconds apart (same for the rest of the field), you'll see the system is working when people actually follow the rules, so the main issue is just making sure everyone's being fair to everyone else. If need be I'll institute a hard PI cap and tell anyone who still complains about not being fast enough to hit the track to find some time instead of just being lazy and throwing power at the car.

Your system is golden. It's worked well and things would be a hell of a lot worse without some semblance of a structured performance cap. There are shockingly large discrepancies between players skill levels and this system does a good job of neutralizing it. Looking at lap times generally, it's shocking how close the times are when you look at the variation in PI. What I was saying wasn't meant to bash that at all, I really dig it. I just sort of wanted to cast my vote and bring attention to the fact that the honor rule plays a big part in this being successful. What also may be a handful of isolated incidents are the combinations of races im able to attend, and the combination of times that 2002 wins handily, I think it may have stacked from my POV since I've missed one here and there but still seem to always be in the race where a particular car is too fast once again. Don't change your system. I (we?) don't know what goes on behind the scenes so knowing that it was addressed personally between you and whoever makes a big difference. I sort of thought it was NBD to you, but now I know better. Thanks

Of course. Im way too competitive, and I could tell BS'ing my way through this would end up in a lot of back of the pack finishes. I got to daydreaming about an NA Miata spec series so I built and tuned one and shared it. It's an absolute pleasure to drive. I had to swap the engine out to the RX-7's because I couldn't listen to the stock one, but added no engine performance afterwards. Just your tires/weight/handling/gearbox set up. Do you think there's enough possible variation on one car platform to allow your system to work on a one car series? Seriously though, drive that car on Suzuka if only for the pure joy of nailing the crap out of every apex.
SVTyler
> TopSirloin
04/07/2015 at 17:51 | 0 |
Theoretically the racing would be even closer with a spec series since all the cars in the field would (initially) have exactly equal performance. I'd like to do a series like that with good-handling cars like an NA or Exige or something and then have a higher-performance one the week after (kinda like we have now with the B450 and A550). I know at least four people have their own ideas for new series in the works so we could decide from all of ours closer to the end of the season. Still got another two months basically.
TopSirloin

04/08/2015 at 02:05 | 0 |
Exactly! Narrow the playing field while also using your system to allow better racers to tune down, and worse racers to tune up. What's the time for A550 Suzuka?
