Last month I happened to be staying at the same resort that a Land Rover dealer meeting was being held. The meeting was to show dealers the new Range Rover Sport SVR (Picture below, I don't like how it looks, but that's not the point of this post).
While at the bar with some of the guys from work, we started talking to some of these Land Rover dealer owners/store managers. After some time, I began asking these guys how I could get a Defender in the US (damn you, Doug DeMuro and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Anyway, though they confirmed everything that I've read previously about not being able to import any Defenders that aren't 25 years old, they did confirm that the new Defender would be available in the US in either 2017 or 2018! Good news!

Now I can cancel my plans to buy a house and get a new Defender instead...

I hate to be that guy, but they lied. Dealers don't get informed of new models like that. While we might see a Defender in the future, right now it's in the same vein as the RX-8 successor being "only two years out". The biggest issue I see right now is that it doesn't really fit in to the lineup anywhere.
Also, the SVR looks better in black.
It's fast as hell, too, can confirm.

Odd, I suppose you're right, but I talked to multiple people at separate times about it and they all had the same story, 2018 model coming in 2017/2018. Also, everyone was quite drunk.
That does look better in black, but I just don't like how low to the ground it is.
