.....is stellar. Like, holy shit. The Continental is a JOKE compared to this. The proportions are perfect. The lines, cues, etc...are all distinctly Cadillac. It isn't some ambiguous luxe sedan. Nobody will mistake this for any other make. Can't wait to see it in the metal Friday/see the interior.

And with a confirmed TTV8?!

Anyone who thinks the Continental is better needs to go back to my substance abusing days and share what they're on with me. Let's face it. This did to the Continental what the GT did to the NSX. Cute effort, Ford. Now go sit down. Grown ups are talking, and they're saying "all hail the crest, baby"

Better than the Conti, I'd say, but the middle of the Cad is too ordinary and understated. There's a lot to like on either end, but apart from being sleek, there's nothing going on in the middle at all. It just says "car".

I really like it, my only thing that I might quip about is that they did a very German thing by making it look like a larger CTS. There are many, many things that Cadillac was right to learn from Germany (yes, I said it). I dunno if shoe sizes was one of them. At least it still looks phenomenal, and more pics will reveal just how similar it is.

True, nobody will mistake this for any other make, but most non-car enthusiast wont be able to tell the models apart.

This is the same problem Audi has. The cars look sharp and well-put together (much like the CT6), but even I'd be fucked if I can tell an A6 apart from an S6/A4/S4/A5/S5, without putting in some thought and consideration. There's nothing signatory or unique about the CT6 exterior, in spite of being Cadillac's halo car.

Cadillac designed a car for future customers, Lincoln designed one for past customers. I like them both, but I'd take the Caddy any freaking day if we're just comparing exterior design.

Exactly. This is my thought, and why I think the CT6 is a temporary flagship, and the Ceil-like halo car is (hopefully) yet to come.

Stunning.

As for the "they all look the same like Audi" argument... that's worked for Audi and the same guy who came up with the idea is now running Cadillac. It's smart because your ATS that you can afford looks related to the CT6 you can't yet afford but the CT6 still looks like more than an ATS. It was a smart move for Audi and it will be a smart move for Cadillac. And the same logic applies to the naming scheme.

As for Lincoln... that's Buick's problem, not Cadillac.

since when was the CT6 a "halo car" it's designed to compete with the A7 and 6GC. Do you even know what a halo car *is*?

Interesting point. I'd love to argue that Cadillac should ABSOLUTELY NOT copy Audi, and that they are American, and their cars should be uniquely so. But they tried that, and as Audi, BMW, and Merc grew more and more trendy and desirable and got better and better, Cadillacs got softer and more for the elderly. It's a shoe size, but that appears to be what sells.

I've liked it on the other ones, but they perfected it here with the chrome lower bumper trim. The trim and the led frame the front, looks great

They have done a great jo of coming up with a clear design language, that is both fresh, and knew, but also some how almost retro, and distinctly Cadillac.

I didn't mean they were copying Audi design but copying their business model.

It is beautiful like all other Cadillac designs have been recently but it isn't daring enough. Plus I am still confused where this car fits into the lineup.

A halo car can be any car in the lineup that is intended to be the attention-getter, not necessarily head and shoulders beyond the rest of the lineup.

CT6, wearing Elmiraj's styling is clearly intended to be the attention-getter, and the aspirational car in Caddy's lineup, moreso than XTS, CTS, or even in some respects, Escalade.

Kinja'd!!! Tapas > Your boy, BJR

I know what a halo car is.

It certainly seems like a halo car - but I could be wrong.

In either case, the Germans have well built and well established brands with a line-up of cars that are pretty close to one another. But Cadillacs are known for their style and old school swagger (tail fins, chrome-gasms, land-barge-esque design) but lacked in sportiness.

Cadillac has answered the sportiness quite well in their smaller offerings (and I'm hoping its present in the CT6 too). I'm just saying it shouldn't abandon a modern interpretation of the swagger, that was seen and loved in sharp land-barge concepts like the Elmirage and Ciel.

And its not just a nice-to-have thing anymore. They need to have something unique to justify that their brand also commands a price similar to Audis, Mercs and Benzes.

So making a car in small, medium and large offerings is doing them no favors.

Oh dude - if thats the case, I'd love to see the Elmirage and Ciel as production cars.

I was hoping the CT6 would draw a lot more inspiration from these concepts, until the pictures got leaked.

Well the new Continental is hugely better than any other Lincoln that has been introduced over the past 10 years.

In terms of style, yeah, the CT6 seems better.

But it's too early to say whether the CT6 or the Continental will be the better car to own.

Kinja'd!!! Your boy, BJR > Tapas
03/31/2015 at 17:50

halo cars are low volume, low production number, high price tag, unique to the rest of the lineup.

The CT6 is their big sedan.

Kinja'd!!! Tapas > Your boy, BJR
03/31/2015 at 17:56

Kinja'd!!!0

Gotcha.

But seeing that some manufacturers don't have cars that meet the limited numbers criteria, they tend to market their range topping cars as halo cars. Hyundai is a good example. And in this case, Cadillac hasn't technically had a halo car so far...so I thought....anyway.

Also, manufacturers don't really have to say or not say that their range topping cars aren't technically halo cars, but you get what I'm saying - right?

Lincoln does not compete for the same type of buyer Cadillac does. Cadillac is going after BMW, and crushing it. Lincoln is going after Lexus and Mercedes, and guess what? The Conti is going to do more good to Lincoln than the CT6 will for Cadillac.

And the name is immeasurably better. CT6 sounds like an electric toothbrush.

Kinja'd!!! Pessimippopotamus > Your boy, BJR

The real reason why the Continental is a joke is that it's going to be on a stretched Fusion chassis if Car & Driver' s reporting is true.

The Lincoln Continental concept previews the upcoming MKS replacement, which will be based on an extended version of the Ford Fusion's front-drive platform. A slightly larger, rear-wheel-drive sedan with a fast roofline, which was to be based on the Ford Mustang, has been axed.

I like caddys but I'm not wild about this design. The scrunched nose hood and the teardrops running down from the headlights just don't work for me.
