For now we have this teaser.

IMO that looks 110% better than the blurred-out-of-the-smoke shot we got before.

I really thought Ford was going to drop a bomb on Caddy with the Continental like they did to Acura with the GT. Almost a little disappointed they didn't pull it off.

Its hard to blame Lincoln though because from what I've heard there is mismanagement and you can only do so much with a Taurus chassis.

What if I told you that the CT6 is actually a refresh/rename of the CTS. ;)

Who said it was on a Taurus platform?

And what does that have to do with release timing?

My favorite example of that was the Veneno (a tarted up aventador) and the P1.

If you did, I wouldn't believe you. The CTS just came out and you know, the V they unveiled 3 months ago.

Well I mean it really looks FWD based, the dash-to-front-axle length is all off on the Conti and what other chassis would it use? (I'd bet stretched taurus, but still)

and I guess, that has nothing to do with release timing. Just IMO it has a lot to do with overall baller-ness of a American luxury car.

the LOOK of a FWD car?!

OH COME ON

My personal guess is they are re-doing the Taurus platform and they're starting with this. They're finally flipping the system and doing it like Caddy does. Release on luxury and then trickle down instead of the other way around like Ford has done (release nice new Ford, then give it to Lincoln.)

My guess is AWD. My hope is RWD/AWD but I doubt it.

Certainly AWD (they said 3.0 ecoboost awd didn't they?), but yea the LOOK of FWD!

I actually just googled "dash to axle" and found an article about whats wrong with lincoln from 2007 …. kind of telling isn't that?

http://blogs.motortrend.com/the-trouble-wi…

And anyway, the new Lincoln MKS is the wrong car.

Why? Because it's built on the wrong vehicle architecture. As it's based on a front drive platform, the dash-to-axle ratio (that is, the distance from the base of the A-pillar to the front axle centerline) just doesn't compute for a luxury car, never mind an American luxury car. Despite the strong Lincoln front end graphic and nice interior — great work under difficult circumstances from Peter Horbury — its proportion and stance scream "Japanese".

Mercedes-Benz and BMW — front engine, rear drive and therefore with a longer dash-to-axle ratio — have come to define the look of the modern luxury sedan. It's why Toyota has spent billions on making Lexus sedans all rear drive (the lukewarm Camry-based ES350 exists only in the U.S. as a sop to an ageing customer base) and why Audi is spending big on shifting the engines back and the front axles forward on all its new vehicles.

Couple things.

1 Lincoln isn't here to be performance based, there for they don't really care about RWD. They've pretty much signed over the American Performance Luxury segment to Caddy and said we're going luxury/cruiser don't care about performance.

2 You can't judge the vehicles entire platform based off of the distance between the a pillar and a front axle, that's simply ridiculous and I can provide examples of varying fwd vs rwd vehicles that show opposite of the theory.

I could be 500% wrong and when the Conti comes out it could totally on par with the A8 and ball hard. BUT I get the suspicion it will be XTS-ish and I'll just refer to this video.

From 5:25 to 7:00 and from 9:00 to the end in this sums up my feels.

IMO its not about performance or dash-to-axle, its about charging $60k + for a car on a $27k chassis. You'll never be able to shake the cheap roots.

Unfortunately I'm buried at work and can't watch.

But call up Audi and see how those chassis systems they use are working. They part share like crazy all the way down through the VW setup. I don't think that necessarily applies. I think this is a typical snap-anti-lincoln judgement.

You say that, but I also hate the XTS …. and the A4-8 is an audi chassis that VW and Bentley also use, just saying.
