This is the first time where I felt like it didn't go well. This was also the first time where I got way too nervous over an interview... I really wanted this one and I don't think I have a chance. I couldn't read the manager at all which makes me super nervous. I now have to wait like two days to hear back. But, because she said she has to interview a few others still, my chances are slim to none. God dammit.

Did you tell them that the Cimarron is your favorite Cadillac?

No, but I'm sure he mentioned that Cadillac should stop using the fucking LT/Ecotec3 engines, and bring back the V8-6-4.

If it helps you sleep at all tonight.

Even when I have my top choice right in front of me, I say that to end the interview. It lets hiring managers leave shit vague.

Mainly because HR wants you to. Also because you really shouldn't make you final choice until you've interviewed everyone. I've had interviews that I thought I NAILED and didn't get the job, and others where I thought I was super nervous/flopped but got the job. Also remember when hiring for 1 job, companies tend to set up at least 3 interviews at once. If you were interview #1, they have to see what else they have on the table.

Just wait to hear from them.

That's a good one, but I really liked their High Technology engine. It had overhead valves and throttle-body fuel injection! In the late 80s! Talk about ahead of its time! It's a shame that Cadillac could never get their hands on the Oldmobile Diesel, though. That in a Cimarron would have been magic.

I knew I shouldnt have called them glorified Chevys and said I could get essentially the same car for thousands less across the street (where the chevy dealer is)

I hope so, I've hired around 6 or 7 people to various jobs, normally interviewing to back fill when I move up in a company. More recently back filling in my own group when people are moving on up.

Worst interview I had was a dude who showed up 25 minutes late (who lived 10 minutes from our location) and then had the balls at the end of the interview to say "My skills match up perfect, is there any reason you wouldn't hire me?"

Yes. you were late as hell, said you were lost (literally 10 minutes from our building), and then clearly have an attitude issue.

Oh but they did get the God-send that was the 5.7 Oldsmobile diesel, backed by a super sturdy 200R4!

Did they not market them correctly? That should have been their biggest hit!

It was because of those damn unreliable German Merc diesels, supposedly they ruined the image of diesel for America.

Relax. Gonna be a bit brutal here.

If they like you, they like you. You aren't interviewing for CTO of Microsoft, it's a reception job at a car dealer. If you have a good personality and look like a hard worker that's probably 90% of it.

I interview everybody new at my company. It's not really part of my job but the CEO thinks I size the people up well. For entry level stuff it's most important that the person is not a sociopath. We can train them on the rest.

The "we need to interview more people" is boilerplate standard stuff. Everybody says that, even if you are the one they want.

As an example, I interviewed 3 people last week for a data analyst position. The person who is getting it showed up 40 minutes late to the interview disheveled. But she seemed the most engaged to what we do and had the best personality. She also sent a follow-up thank you note while the others didn't- which shows she is truly interested.

In all seriousness, though, a revival of the Northstar name with a DOHC V8 would be awesome.

A new DOHC V8 has been confirmed actually. Customers apparently wanted "Technology and Stuff".

Has it? We know there's a TT V8 down the pipeline, but is it DOHC?

I mean, I don't hate on the OHV at all and I laugh at the European cars getting walloped by the LS/LT in every category that really matters, but a new DOHC V8 from GM means a new DOHC V8 to call the LT5 in the next ZR1.

Nevermind, it hasn't been confirmed, but it has been speculated that it will be based on the new 3.6 V6.

My mother actually went through a similar situation with her current job.

Of 50-some people that applied, 20 or so were interviewed. She was really nervous about it all, and couldn't get enough references because her previous bosses were total assholes about the situation, but she ended up getting the job.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, keep your head up, and even if you don't get the job, there are still loads of other opportunities out there, right? Stay confident, my friend, and don't let your worries get the best of you! :)

I don't really know why I got like I did. Every other interview I was on went great. Maybe it was because I wanted the job so badly. Maybe it was because I'm so stressed. But it is what it is I guess.

Nah... I bet your chances are better than slim to none. Probably better than winning Lotto 6/49 too (1 in 13,000,000).

Look... all you can do is your best. From there, there's no point in worrying about it.

Sorry you felt like it didn't go well but as crowmolly stated above (or is it below?) me that this isn't a position where a single bad interview is going to wreck things beyond hope. It's true that if they feel you have a good work ethic or that you're bright enough to quickly and easily digest the training they're already mentally filling one of the available positions with you. Hell, in the fair amount of time I spent working with everything from big multiple brand/multiple location dealerships all the way down to small independent used car dealers I learned that sometimes guys get hired simply because the interviewer liked them and they seemed like less of a jackass than the other applicants (and let me tell you the percentage of car salesmen that are complete a**holes is frighteningly high).

The biggest thing they're looking for are people smart enough not to f**k up anything bad enough for them to lose money or do anything that could come back on the dealership in the form of a charge for fraud. Personally I'd want someone who wouldn't piss off customers on a regular basis but not all GM's/Owners treat customers well themselves and that attitude trickles down to the point they're known for it.

I know I'm a couple of days late to the party but if it's still gnawing at you let it go. The absolute worst case scenario here is that you are passed over for some random reason and then you take the experience and use it to nail the next interview at another dealership.

Good luck with everything, chief

They should also bring back the 500-ci V8. Or maybe they could make a V12 out of 2 Atlases, which should end up at 500 ci :)

The need to bring back the Atlas. That would literally be the only thing that would convince me to buy a new GM.
