Combine all three of 472cid's lists together, and this is what you get.
Ford Mustang
Chevrolet Camaro
Dodge Challenger
Chevrolet SS/Holden HSV (Holden bites the dust in 2017, no more SS)
Chevrolet Corvette.
Audi R8 (V8 leaving soon)
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Seven. Just seven. If you take out those that have a possible future of losing their V8, natural aspiration, and/or existence, it's just FIVE.
Big Three and Aston, you can do it.

Makes me kinda glad to know that my car is one the last to soldier on. And I just forgot! Holden goes bye bye in 2017! No more SS

sad isn't it. The Ram is available with a 6 speed manual, but only with the diesel.

And it makes me mad at myself for getting the E90 M3 with the DCT
I should have got the stick damn it!
And fuck you Audi for not keeping the gated shifter for the R8. Then they would at least have a manual V10 option

Ford's going away with the v8 option? After all that engineering on the flat plane?
The GT Coyote I can...kinda understand. Modular based, technically old as hell architecture. But the 350's Flat plane? I thought that was coming into play 2016.

Why would the mustang lose the V8 so soon? Im genuinely curious. I can see a race to be the first to offer AWD between the top end mustang, camaro, and challenger though.

I totally forgot about the GT350. The V8-less GT is kinda sketchy too, but makes sense. Will fix.

I just can't see any car company ditching such an expensive engine so shortly.
Also, remember the protest when Ford was going to make the 'stang a Mazda based FWD? I'd imagine a similar protest if the v8 was dropped altogether. *shrug* I'm just an internet commenter tho, whatiknow

I thought the Vantage was staying N/A for weight reasons while the bigger cars were getting turbo'd.

Nevermind the Internet commenter label, I think you're right, there would be a protest if the Coyote is near extinction. Same if the Wrangler becomes a FWD crossover, or Lotus makes an SUV (oh wait)

Hey, if Lotus can make a 4dr saloon fun, maybe an SUV wouldn't be that bad (for it's size). Hell, even the Cayenne was supposed to be a fun car (for it's size)

And Porsche too, I forgot about all the possible protests when the 911 "died." (water cooled, AWD)

I remember a while back one of the UK mags did an interview with the boss of Aston Martin and his plans for the future were basically if I remember correctly.
Entry 2 seater (Vantage replacement) N/A V8, manual optional.
4 Seaters (DB9 & Rapide replacement) Twin Turbo V8, no manual
High end 2 seater (Vanquish replacement) V12, no manual.

So there'll only be four left soon? That's a shame.
A list for current cars with pushrod V8s would be cool. I think the list would be pretty short, though - I think GM, Bentley and FCA are the only automakers that produce such cars.

The next gen Astons with V8s are reportedly going twin-turbo a la AMG motors. But Aston will retain the 6.0L V12.

Fuck Audi? No, fuck the pampered old men who buy Audi sports cars but can't put in the effort to shift the car. Don't buy DCT sports cars then bitch when the manual option dies out.

i know fuck those guys! how else am i supposed to buy used sports cars with manuals that i can afford? (finally got the 430 manual, haha)
but still fuck audi. you know why? the take rate for their manual was VERY good. and it would have set them apart since nobody else offers one. i think they're just pretentious dicks that think their DCT is so good that a stick is pointless
"vorsprung durch technik" and shit...

I'm glad you got the car you wanted, (eve though a base C7 will blow it away in every measurable way) but the point stands. Everyone that buys a DCT thinks it's so good the manual is pointless, so why shouldn't they just build DCTs? The Ford GT gets a pass for being basically a homologation car, and the R8 is basically just a slightly softer, more boring Lamborghini. And we all know Lambo owners are more poser than anything, so THEY aren't shifting. Porsche owners are more concerned about Ring times, pedigree and managing the pain in their lower back than they are about rev matching downshifts so why not just buy a PDK and tell people that it's faster than any human can shift and blah blah blah.

Haha thanks. I know modern cars are faster but that doesn't bother me. I love the sound and the chassis feel and the interior. Only so fast you can go on public roads anyways. Maybe I can add a C7 to the fleet one day.
Unfortunately I think we're going to see DCTs totally consume the sports car market. I think it's only a matter of time until Chevy has a DCT in the Corvette. If it doesn't happen in the C7 it will def happen in the C8. And once the genie is out of the bottle the stick shift sales will start going down. I really wouldn't be surprised if we see a day where no Corvette or 911 is available with a stick. Sticks will eventually only be offered in lower priced sports cars where it's cheaper to just sell the stick than offer a DCT. The Miata will probably always have the stick. And the lower end Mustangs and sub 911 Porsches will probably still have it. But I bet the top tier sports car for each brand will end up DCT only sooner than later.

Hey, it's ok. Torque below 4k RPM isn't for everyone.
Unfortunately, I'm not so optimistic. I see the DCT keeps getting cheaper and cheaper to make, and more refined so automakers start dropping them in everything. Ford is already doing this with the Focus. Most sports cars are already DCT only or are headed there soon. I see that trend continuing. I think the Americans will hold out longer. The Miata will hold out, though I could see the auto option going to a DCT. I see cars going hybrid/electric/autonomous before the manual dies out completely, but the few drivers cars out there will be either very very cheap, or very expensive.

But would you want a NA diesel? Not exactly missing out on anything with a turbomuffler.

Haha I don't care about low end torque. I just love an engine that revs fast and high and sounds like the old F1 and Indy cars. My brain still associates that kind of sound with race car.
But when I do feel like a sports car with low end torque one day it will definitely be a Corvette or Viper and not a car with a little turbo charged engine. Those things sound like vacuums.
Fuck I hope cars like the Miata don't replace the slushbox option with a DCT. Cause once that happens people will start buying the DCT and Manuél will be in danger. Can you imagine how high the take rate for DCT Corvettes could be? So many old dudes already buy the slushbox...

9k RPM sounds cool, but it's not the fastest way around a track or off the line. But as an experience, it's something few cars can match. Enjoy your service intervals.
As for turbo engines... Take care of that F430, because not even Ferrari can keep their NA engines going much longer and at this rate (McLaren, FGT, 488, Koenigsegg, Bugatti, Hondacura ect...) everything is going to be turbo or hybrid.
The C7 Z06 already brags about the slushbox being faster than the manual can shift. So a DCT will only widen the gap. Not that it matters since heat soak will kill your lap times in that car long before your track session is over. And yeah, I absolutely see the Miata going DCT but as long as they keep it slow on purpose (i.e. purposely not chasing lap times) the spirit of that car will still be in the third pedal.

Oh I agree! I wouldn't track the 430. No time to track right now cause working weekends. If I do have time I'll track something cheap that won't kill me if I wreck it.
Lucky thing about the service intervals is that my pops can do all the scheduled maintenance. And it's got a timing chain so no engine outs just to do a timing belt.
I know everything is going turbo and/or hybrid :(( I can't believe Ferrari is already going hybrid with the F12's replacement. Hopefully the base Corvette and all Lambos stay N/A without electric motors for as long as possible. Mustang GT too.
Does GM still not have a solution for the heat soak issue on the Z06? What a bummer.
Haha yeah the Miata doesn't have to care about DCTs being quicker because it's the "enjoyable slow car".
