I left foot brake occasionally too, but only on a manual.

I do it if I'm sitting in stop and go traffic. I don't think it's so bad

I drove manual from the start so I never learned that habit. Even when I drive autos it just feels wrong.

Left foot braking? That means you must be a race car driver!

I right footbrake on occasion, just to unbalance the car while keeping the right on-throttle, but it's "pretty much" only on track that I do it.

If you drive an automatic car, I don't see a problem using your left foot to brake...

I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you don't rest your foot on the brake pedal, keeping the brake lights on. Where I come from, almost anyone over the age of about 35 left-foot-brakes because they all learned to drive in carboretted cars that barely idled in the winter. I lucked out and had really well sorted carbs on my first few cars. Most of my unlucky friends, however...

What happens with the older cars? Do they stall out? I'm 36 but have never owned a car with a carburetor .... or left foot braked :)

I do in my Mercedes diesel, I often slow to a stop or close to a full stop and then keep the revs up. Before its warmed up I keep the revs higher with my right foot and give it some gas when waiting at a light, I wish the 300Ds had the idle knob like the 240s, why the fuck didn't you give it to me Merc?? I wonder if I could fit on on a 300D.

You are a lucky Jalop! I like carbs the same way I like taking a bath in a river or shaving with a buck knife. Cool if you're trying to show off, but not cool if you want to do things well.

Carbs... if they're poorly maintained (as most teenager's cars are), then they can have idle problems (among other issues). The biggest thing about a carb is that it'll act differently in the winter and summer. When it's warm and sunny, you might have a nice 900 rpm idle. Then it drops to 5 degrees and it wants to idle at 300 rpms, which really won't work. Then the choke starts acting funny, and it either idles at 3,000 or stalls. Randomly. That unpredictability makes people drive two-foot just in case this thing starts acting up !

Doesn't Mario Andretti left foot brake? Get better lap times LFBing I understand. I learned on a stick so always right foot. Tried a couple times and nearly sent myself though the windshield. The only time my left foot touches the brake is if I'm on a steep hill with my wife's automatic.

I think I got it from always driving Auto, and the fact that my mother always left-foot braked.

Nah, no riding the brakes, that is one of the most infuriating things people do, tied with braking unnecessarily when in a straight line.
