since getting your license? Twice now I've gone four months without getting behind the wheel. The first time when I moved to college my freshman year and didn't bring my car (drove at winter break). The second time when I came to France and didn't drive until my girlfriend and I rented a car while traveling. Waaay too long in both instances.

I'm now kicking off a whole week of no driving while in DC. That is the longest I have gone without driving.

It's been since last August because I've been away at school.

I've never gone more than a couple weeks, but my friend just came back from two years teaching in Korea. Didn't drive once in that period

Wow that must be strange. It's weird enough for me after two months (went from no driving at all to the autobahn last week haha).

um, I've only had my license for like 7 months, but over a month I went without driving over the winter (mi madre thinks I will die a sudden fiery death or roll my car if there is 1 tiny bit of snow on my car).

I know right, but luckily winter is over, and so I should be fine now, she claims she wants me to have at least a year of driving before I drive in the snow, but next year I'll be in college (living at home though).

Eh I can sort of see the logic behind that. Still sucks though. It will make your first snowhoon that much sweeter.

it's been about a week since I've driven my car. But I drive the company vehicle. Doesn't really count though since its for work and the fun factor is night and day

my thoughts exactly, she also wouldn't let me have a car with a manual, which I tried insisting on, but of no use, she also proclaimed I must have an automatic, I wanted a small truck ala Ford Ranger, but there were almost no automatics in my price range, and someone said they get bad gas mileage and so I ended up with a mercury mountaineer. (which ironically probably gets worse gas mileage because right now im averaging 14.2 MPG according to the trip computer).

03/28/2015 at 18:00

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I can't imagine the Mountaineer gets better gas mileage than the Ranger, although I could be wrong. Shame you couldn't get a manual—I definitely want one for my next car.

It's an uplander without any back seats, so the hooning potential is minimal. Being that the back is full of parts and tools the result would be awful

I didn't have a car for the four years I was in college, but did drive over summers or holidays. So that was probably a few 3 or 4 month stretches. More recently I was in China for 6 weeks without driving.

Seems like not driving for a semester or multiple semesters is a pretty common answer here.

I think I can get one for my next car. but yes, I really doubt a midsize SUV gets better gas mileage than a tiny pickup.

My college was fairly urban and hard to find parking. There was good public transportation, and plenty of places to bike or walk to.

the college I'm going to, (well the only one I applied to, and was accepted) is in my home town, so I'm planning to live at home to save 8 grand a year and so I'm planning to drive in college becuase the campus is like 4 miles away, and I don't want to walk or bike that every day, and in northern Idaho, we have winter, and I don't wanna be on a moped in the snow.

Well at least it was easy to get around. I just had to bum rides off of people for a semester. Freshman at my school say there's no parking, but that's before they move off campus and realize that all the decent parking is occupied by freshmen. Freshmen who of course leave their cars in one spot all week until they go out on the weekend while the students who drives to school have to battle for the scraps on the outskirts of campus haha. Of course now I go to school in Paris and nobody has a car.

Between extended vacations and long corporate trainings, I'd say there's been a couple of 2-week periods without driving over the years. So, 2 weeks max.

My aunt has a Ford Explorer that I drive every once in a while, it definitely isn't my first choice in the snow, not terrible either. She says she likes it because it is big and safe, I prefer my Impreza.

Where do you live? Is snow a big problem?
