How old was it?

That's dirt on the battery, not corrosion. It is from November of 2009 though so I should probably get around to replacing it. It works fine though, after sitting for a month it had enough juice to start up first try.

looks like a radiator flush and fill is next?

If I had to guess I'd say it's original. Had an oem yellow sticker on it and Japanese writing (although it was built in California). 20 years old.

I flushed the whole cooling system when I replaced the radiator last fall. I know something is wrong but my dad thinks I can make it another 70,000 miles to 300,000 without any major repairs. He's put money on it, saying he'll pay for half if it doesn't make it to 300k. Any idea what is putting all this crap in my radiator after its been replaced and flushed?

oh oh - that's not oil in the radiator fluid?

I don't think it is. I've changed the oil twice and haven't seen any water. And my oil level is consistent.

any oil in it? I hope it's not the head gasket? Otherwise a bad thermostat might let the coolant cook in the motor causing that. But it looks gross what kind of car? I'd change out the thermostat too if that hasn't been done. Also don't use any additives, that ruins coolant.

It's a 95.5 Tacoma. Thermostat is on the list along with new hoses. It's probably a head gasket. The muffler leaks water all the time, steam comes from the exaust on startup, o2 sensor is white, and I lose about a quart of coolant every 500 miles.

Those are good things. But not seeing water in the oil doesn't prove you don't have oil in the coolant.

These guys go through most of the possible causes of oil in coolant (if that's what it is).

Might want to send the coolant (and maybe the oil too) to Blackstone Labs - doesn't sound too bad, like $20 for a sample.

Whelp, I might need to replace my radiator cap. It may be 31 years old.

i read somewhere that every 6 years is a good idea. My Dodge has one that looks like it's from the 70s.

steam from the exhaust on start up is pretty common on trucks, Our mufflers sit horizontal and as the exhaust cools its common for moisture to condense in there. Well, Its normal as long as it stops after the truck warms up and doesnt come back until it cools again.

There's that. Or the head could be heating up and filling the gap then it warps back down when it cools. Passenger foot well is also wet so that could be my coolant leak. It runs alright so I'm just running it until it gives me an actual problem.
