Wood bed for Ranchero: yea/nay? I'd been toying with the idea of some wood floor trim for the front already, but this gives me ideas.

I always love the look of a good wood bed. As long as you have the tools to execute it fully and to a quality level, I say totally do it.

What does it need to complete that .6? Any engine but a 350?

Looks like they ran out of wood for the bed and had to get a different type. I like it except for the ridiculous exhaust setup.

Actually, I think the 350 really works here. There's a difference between making a clone of everything people have done before, and using that knowledge to create something (perhaps not that original) that uses the pieces of that formula exactly right with some less-usual twists. That being said, maybe a fuelie 327 would give extra panache in that formula. Less drivable that way, but not terrible.

The extra .6, the velour steering wheel cover, the JEGS-branded valve covers, the ceiling-mounted stereo box, the dash pad - a lot of it is made up of concessions to practicality and being a driver, but there are enough little points to detract just *slightly* from the effect. Not much, though.

The exhaust might be my favorite part

Steam chambers heated by exhaust pipe? It could totally work!

What could possibly go wrong?

The valve covers really bother me this thing is begging for some finned offys or even just plain ones with body matched paint would look much better

What is the deal with the fenders and running boards, to me they either look mounted to low or the body is mounted to high. Is that some classic style I don't know about?

That's exactly what I was thinking on the valve covers. Fins go well with orange for some reason. Fenders look fine to me - I think he just used slightly thicker than usual support blocks for the bed. The cab looks at the right height. The trouble here is that I don't think a Ford B is supposed to have a frame painted that starkly black against orange. It makes the gap (already probably 3/4" oversize) under the bed look too big.

ooooooh, that is the frame, I though it was a huge gap!
