Dammit, I was hoping that we'd get a version in the US!

The Miata needs competition here in North America. This would be perfect to compete with it.

I love seeing tiny engines with usable power. It seems like not long ago a 1.0L engine would be for a basement level car that couldn't get out of its own way.

I really like the look of it. Since the TF and MR2 died there hasn't been much competition for the MX5 (Miata) at all. There'd have to be a fix for the always on traction control though, I couldn't live with that.

We have a 1 litre with 55hp and a 1.3 with 70hp, so 127hp is big power for me haha.

I duno how good the market would be for something so tiny in the US though. It'll probably be a niche/ enthusiast car over here.

traction control could be disabled with a fuse.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking it's going to be pretty much everywhere. I know that I'd be in the market for something so tiny as long as I fit in it, but I am also very much in the minority.

I wondered if you could disable TC that easily, since you can with ABS and such (I've never had a car with TC), but the way people complain about it I thought surely it's harder than that or more people would do it.

It's a niche/enthusiast car everywhere. However, I expect it to be an even harder sell in the US with its prevalent "why buy car x if I can get the larger/heavier/more powerful car y for less" attitude.

I'd love one but it'd have to be a second car with it being so impractical and I wont be in a position to keep two cars for quite some time. Being only 5' 9 means fitting in cars isn't an issue for me haha.

Yeah, plus even I'd be hesitant to drive something so tiny in the US knowing what I'd be sharing the road with and I'm pretty used to tiny cars.

I want it to come over here badly (as long as they make the 1L 127hp version) but I feel that it would be close to impossible to get it past US safety standards unless they originally designed it with them in mind.

I was extremely worried about practicality when I bought my BRZ after a lifetime of sedans and wagons and then my even less practical MR2, but it hasn't been that big of an issue. If I have to move equipment or whatever, I take the passenger seat out of Charlie and stack it all there.

Apart from pedestrian crash tests, aren't safety requirements pretty similar between Europe and the US at this point, though? I know that there are some differences, but I thought that they started getting more closely aligned in the last decade which is what is allowing for so many global platforms now.

It's more that I need room for more than 2 people fairly regularly so a strict two seater is a problem. I could live with something that has 2 small seats for occasional use like the BRZ. My passengers don't need to be comfortable they just need to be in the car haha.

The BRZ back seats are pretty useless. I consider it a three seater because anyone who has ever crammed themselves into the back seat had to have their ass on one side and their feet in the other.

Kinja'd!!!0

You're probably right actually. For some reason I had it in my mind that this was solely a Kei car meaning it only had to meet those standards but as long as its being sold in Europe as a "normal car" I guess the crash standards should be similar. That is unless they are using some workaround for Europe but I won't even pretend that I know much about all of that.

I manage with the Panda which looks like this:

Kinja'd!!!

Bear in mind those front seats are as far forward as they'll go, I would not be able to get in never mind drive like that. With the seat reclined a little so I can relax on longer journeys the back of the drivers seat is almost touching the back seat.

Not always. It's usually tied into the brake system now since pretty much every car these days uses the brakes for TC/ESC. The same computer would also control the brake force distribution. In the E36 M3, there was a capacitor in the brake circuit that had to be removed or shorted or something to actually turn it off. I'd imagine that this would require something similar.

I drive tiny cars in Florida (the Brodozer state). It's not too bad. I like being able to get out of their way.

No transmission tunnel, and no rear window over said seats in the Panda. The driver's seat is always touching the back seat in my car, and I sit way closer to the wheel than anyone I know.

That's true, to be honest I doubt I could even own a BRZ if the back seats are that bad. Hopefully I get well off enough in the next few years to buy a nice practical wagon and a completely unpractical fun car too.

i sat in it at the car show and im 6'0. people over exaggerate how small seats are. people used to sit in the back of 911's and other old sports cars all the time. And I don't think ill ever see a car with as small of a backseat as the original TT

Kinja'd!!! SidewaysOnDirt still misses Bowie > jjhats

Kinja'd!!!0

Did you sit in it with people in the front? Because of the shape of the dash, you can't pull the passenger seat up very far without your knee hitting it, and I don't mean brushing against it. I mean your knee is jammed against it and there's no place else for it to go. If I have to have someone get in the back, I have the bigger person get in the back so that the front will move forward far enough for a foot to get into the footwell. You may have sat in one at a show, but I live with one.

idk I just popped the front seat and squeezed back there. im assuming the drivers seat was set at a normal position considering I didn't touch it and many many people were climbing in and out of the drivers seat. Its small no doubt but usable in a pinch. I didn't think the fiesta st backseat was a huge bit more usable maybe only in headroom and that one I did set the driver seat to where it should be for me. Its a very small car despite having 4 doors. Im also very thin and all my height is in my legs

Na, sometimes I'd like a little more power in the Panda but at the end of the day it cruises smoothly at 80mph and never gets left behind in traffic. Anything more than 200hp and I'd be asking for trouble with speeding tickets etc with all the cameras around here.

Want but don't need. My 3 has 155 hp and sometimes I want the 3 with the bigger engine but I've never needed it.

I like what it represents. I like the role of plays in the market.

I'm just not big on the particular method of execution.
