It is time. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will have to go, sadly. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , they're Fantasy Garage material. But with a company car (review coming soon), a daily driver, a project E30T and most weekends out of town I've got no time to drive the GTI. So it'll go, either to someone local or someone very far away. Step one has been completed: a printed for sale ad behind the windows. Step two: Extra (better) pictures for an internet ad.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Given what these iconic 205 GTIs go for nowadays, especially taking into account the original and mechanically semi-restored condition mine is in I'm aiming for about €5k, which translates to roughly $5.5k.

Very nice... In such condition you should find a buyer... I've been thinking about bringing one back here this summer... Maybe... maybe not...
It would be a 1.9 though.

.......I don't really *need* this.....but still, 5.5k for a running, driving classic car that also drives like a modern car and has some nice style? Hmmmm.......I could sell the bike, sell some stock......I do believe-

Well, for $5,5k you can pick it up at my (the Netherlands based) apartment, it doesn't include Atlantic shipping. I could drive it to the local to me Emden (Germany) car shipping port though.
About that 'driving like a modern car'; it's got fuel injection, power windows and power locks and all that, but also unassisted steering. Which I like on a car this light weight and sporty, but it's quite different from the steering in a modern car. That contrast is part of the reasons I like driving this car so much.

Nice price, you can easily pay more than that for one in the UK. Prices are really starting to jump now.

Interesting. I might make use of that newly received email address.

You might even consider raising your price this is around 6700 euros and doesn't look to be as nice as yours. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C538951

I know and I'm sorry. I do feel like I've given you every opportunity though. Anyway, currently the car is far from sold.

I don't think the market for these is as strong as it is in the UK. We'll see. Also, the mileage on my car (240k km) is far higher. It shouldn't matter due to the age and all the attention it has received, but still. I haven't listed a price in my printed ad, and I'm parking the car on a route where many University students and their teachers, many from abroad, cycle past. I'm wondering if and what kind of replies I'll be getting. The broke 18-25 year old student demographic might not be the right demographic, but it's a large one and because they all cycle they've got the chance to stop and read my ad. And admire the car.

I have no idea at all. What do you think this could go for in the US, registered and all?
I imagine California would be out though. Despite being from 1988 and having a fuel injected engine, it left the factory without a catalyst.

Ah that is fairly high miles, still worth a good price though. Good luck with it.

Haha don't take that the wrong way, I'm in no position to buy it and you've given me more than ample opportunity if I wanted to do so, despite not owing me any such opportunity! You're only killing me in that I'm trying every possible way to convince myself that I need to buy it, but I just can't. Nothing but the best of luck to you in selling it!

Meh who cares, Cali has a ton of good cars already. I can get a Maine title on it for around $100. I would imagine it would look like 10-12 for one of those in good original shape. Hell even Mk1 VW GTI's are going for that cake

Well, I don't want to be too pushy in my quest to export cars. Do note I added " So it'll go, either to someone local or someone very far away ."
