Nice! Just did mine last week. I'm enjoying the new rotors and pads. (Not that the thing really likes stopping, the heavysonofabitch!

Do you have to rebuild the hubs like you do on the 100s? I was going to do my brakes myself, then I watched a video on how to do it, and promptly took it to the shop by my office.

Yeah I read some good things about these powerstops on Mud so hopefully it will help some with the stopping. Never run ceramic pads before.

You do, but I am doing a full axle rebuild this weekend as well. This is just preventative maintenance while I'm in there.

Funny you are doing it now as well. Just did mine. Also regeared while I was at it. Time to drain the initial oil and refill with about 500 miles on them now.

What a messy job rebuilding these is! wow!

I HATE the smell of gear oil. I'm also a little nervous about switching the birfields from side to side. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

True, toolsrus, Kevin on mud gave me some good advice. Some after the fact. He said that if the wheel bearings aren't making noise leave them. They are good for well over 500k. The trunion bearings not so much. Birfields I packed with grease by using the needle type of an attachment on the grease gun. I got so much in there that when I checked a week later I still didn't need to add any to the knuckles. So that's good.

I'm sure you've done all the reading. It's just fresh in my mind. The smell of gear oil and the pile of nitrile gloves in the trash can. Woof! Glad to be done!! So many torque specs!!!! haha

Also, I'm sure you've taken off the bolts/cone washers from the outer axle cap, but I found a brass hammer to be the best thing in the world. A good smack on the head of the bolt and the metal cone washer came out. No amount of hitting or prying anywhere else did a damn thing. Just a big ol thwack on the head of the stud did it each time.

My bearings are making noise so I'm replacing them. I sort of want to take the birfs apart just for curiosities sake so I ordered new snap rings. I got my moly grease in jars so I'm going to have to hand pack anyway.

Right on. Seating the races for the new bearings was a pain without a tool. I used the old bearings and a piece of wood. Less than ideal, but it will work. No need for a seal puller because all of the seals can be dented with a flat head and then popped out. Setting the axle nut preload seemed sketchy, but I just followed the many options of directions online.

Having this printed in color by my side made me feel MUCH more confident throughout. Just to make sure I was doing everything correctly and in the correct order. Also, I doesn't hurt to have a buddy or girlfriend label the bolts, nuts, pieces from each part in ziplock bags. I used a 5 gallon bucket filled with gas to clean the birfields and other parts. Amazing how much grease comes off and out of everything.

bought a race and seal installer for $25 bucks. Already got that mud guide printed out. One thing I'm a little unclear on is how much grease to add to the birfs. How did you determine how much to add?

As much as you can possibly pack in. You can't really over pack them because the knuckle should be 3/4 full. So we packed as much as we could in there and then around it once installed. After driving a bit and it warming up you can remove the filler bolt in the top of the knuckle and check the level. It shouldn't be FULL per the mud gods, but you should be able to reach the level of grease in there with your finger.

Also, a bearing packer was nice to have. Those wheel bearings can eat a lot of the other Mobil 1 red grease.
