Pistons and heads from an M156. Goes along with my post from the other day, which I'm too lazy to link at the moment.

Which begs the question: why is it apart?

You just had to make me get the link. It's in there somewhere, one of the replies. Basically I was inspecting for damage after a timing chain sprocket disintegrated and sent debris through the oil. Engine is being replaced.

I wish I could've taken photos of the crazy stuff I saw when I worked at the QEC in FL. I'm sure you see a good bit of it on a daily basis.

Good times.

The MB QEC?

I wouldn't say a daily basis, but fairly often yeah. Some things are definitely very interesting.

Yes sir, MB QEC. I was an intern there for quite a while. Performed analysis of the 722.9 VGS in conjunction with transmission/drivetrain.

Well, you didn't have to... I missed that yesterday, thanks.

Nice. What do you do these days?

Something completely different! I now work in tech support for a company that sells mobile satellite TV products and also provide multimedia content distribution solutions. I also help with testing and development. So it kinda works out in the end... but I do miss MB. Greatly.

Side note: If he is still there, I totally know the engineer that will be analyzing your M156 too.

Tech support doesn't sound nearly as fun, but hopefully you enjoy it.

My FTS tells me the engineer is very interested in getting this thing back to analyze. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same guy, most people tend to stick with Mercedes for a long time.

It has a lot of ups and downs and weird moments. I attribute that mainly due to the fact that I work with both technicians at dealers/shops AND with customers directly.

I also had a gig with VW parts distribution for a while too. Not fun, but it really gave me an idea of how big and crazy our automotive world has become.

If your issue is part of a "clean point" or is something new... then yeah its a BIG deal. I wont say much more but the engineers are either American or are on contract directly from Germany to stay in the US and work both sides of the company. Its very unique.

Yeah the industry as a whole is a little crazy with how complex it all it is.

I've got a very loose idea on how some of the stuff works. Being that this is a very expensive repair and previously unheard of, yeah they're itching to get it back.

Huh. Yeah that's not there on mobile. Don't think I've ever used anything but mobile either. Good to know though, thanks.

Crap! Maybe that's why it wasn't running right!

I had already put it back in the block before deciding to take a picture.

Ah, I was starting to think the engine had eaten it then puked it out the side of the block!
