A 959 crashed/flipped a few days ago in Geneva. The cause, excessive speeding in wet conditions they say. This is the most painful thing I've seen all year... ;_;

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Quote:

The crash occurred a few days ago in Geneva, Switzerland and according to bystanders the driver was speeding despite the wet road and ultimately lost control, hitting a guardrail and then landing on its roof. Fixing up the roof made from Kevlar will probably cost a small fortune, but hopefully the supercar will be fully repaired.

To the rich bloke who crashed it, they only made 337 of these, and I've been very fortunate to have seen 3 them. So help me God and Ferdinand and Butzi Porsche, if you don't repair this car....I will come to your mansion or place of residence and make you sell everything you own to fix it(in my mind I would do that and maybe worse).

Kinja'd!!!

Just please repair it. ;_;

Either I or the owner of the car is thinking this right now, the owner should be thinking this or I'll do it for him.

If the point of the V is pointing in the direction you travel, that will send water to the sides and not to the centre. I just got confused about directions since the car was upside down.

This is the best video of it I could find on short notice

After holding my laptop upside down like a moron and think about the way tyres are mounted : no, they are mounted the right way.

Maybe it's easier to see :

If I'm correct, tyres on the 959 here are older generation Michelin Pilot Sport (which I think came standard from the factory). Even if they still look good, the compound probably didn't aged well and became hard (which doesn't help on wet road).

That's just my two cents' worth.

Crashed because of too much toe-in. Case closed.

Is anyone else disturbed by the near complete collapse of the roof? It's not like they dropped it off of a building...

It's amazing what advances we've made in 30 years. I watched a friggin Chrysler 200 slide down the interstate on hits roof at ~50mph the other day, and it didn't even look like it dented the roof.

I'm pretty sure they ARE on the wrong way. That may have been the reason for this crash, interestingly. Other than the delusions of grandeur, that is.

Nah, they are facing the way they should, the top of the tyre has the V pointed in the direction of travel as they should. I just got confused by the car being the wrong way up.

i need to take new pics for you sir

here is a text based update:

1. The first 356 (Audrey) is FINALLY done (says my dad). He said she is driving like a champ. He took her home last night.

2. The other 356s (I don't even know at this point if there is one other or two other? I need to ask him) are still having body work done. Nowhere near close.

3. The 1969 911 (Albert) is coming along. He is now painted red. His engine is ready. Interior hasn't even begun though.
