It seems good from this article's comments, if not the best. I mean a fellow opponaut got through high school with it.

1. Put in an LT1 and a 4L60 from a wrecked Caprice. Reliability and fuel economy solved.

2. Put on a set of General Altimax Arctic tires. Traction solved.

I think you overestimate the LT1 swapping. Yes you can make more power from less engine these days, but reliability? Phhht. Those things are very reliable as long as you aren't crashing them into stuff. LT1 swap can be prohibitively expensive.

Then again, these things are reliable IF the one you find isn't butchered. The problem with old cars is when people who think they know what they are doing start hacking into the wiring harness to add lights and amps and stuff and it turns out they cut (and poorly spliced) the starter lead and primary alternator wire, and now it only cranks sometimes and only charges most of the time... and you have reliability problems.

My '73 LeSabre is a tank. Very reliable, except for the things I had butchered in the past. Now I have replaced the entire engine wiring harness with a new one, and my wiring hacks are much more professional than what they used to be.

Yes. I got rear ended once by a car going about 15ish. I survived without a scratch and the car was quickly fixed with spray paint.
