So my friend has this Blazer and it was lifted too much when he got it, so he asked a shop to lower it 4". He came back and it was like this, they even cut the frame etc! So here it sits and he is going after them, he asked them at what point did they notice that wasn't what he asked for haha. I would make them buy the truck, I wouldn't let them do any repairs to it since they cut it up.

Did they lower it 4"?

Why didn't he just ask them to remove the lift? If it was a 2" lift and he asked for a 4" drop, they were just doing what he asked them to.

Why would they cut the frame? Wouldn't this just be a case of bolting in some stock springs or adjusting torsion bars.

I think there was a misunderstanding. He wanted them to lower it 4" from where it was, and they might have taken it as 4" from stock.

I'm confused. He asked for a 4" lower, and that looks about like a truck that's 4" lower. What's the problem, here?

Everyone deserves some responsibility here, but the shop should've double-checked for such a major, irreversible operation, if only to protect themselves and have a greater chance of a happy customer. If it involved any sort of chopping, drilling, etc - my mechanic was always "okay, so here is EXACTLY what I'm going to do. We on the same page?" Ditto for expensive stuff.
Why didn't they say, "Yo homes, you want us to just remove the lift kit? Or do you want us to take out the lift kit and then slam it 4 inches? Just wanna make sure here. And we would do it by cutting into the frame and..."

sorry to say but it sounds like he got exactly what he asked for, however the shop sure should have had conversions that would have avoided this. I mean, custom work like this should require buy off on methods and parts choices...If nothing else they should have wondered what shocks/wheels/tires he wanted

That's an interesting theory... That would explain the cuts, and how the car seems to be sitting the way it is...
If that's the case, that's an expensive mistake.

It was lifted about that much apparently, and instead of asking to remove the lift, he asked them to lower it 4 inches, assuming they knew he meant from where it was at.

I totally agree, I'm just saying I know plenty of places where you get what you ask for and if you aren't explicitly clear about what you want, they aren't going to stop to check with you first. It's not ideal. These little shops that sort of do a little bit of evreything and are pretty cheap aren't going to take that initiative, and it's a lesson learned the hard way.

Shop should have clarified with him if he knew what they were going to do, but that looks like kind of what he asked for :(

They dropped it 16" and he asked for 4". They ordered the parts for 4" and somehow didn't use them.

The thing was above stock and he wanted it lowered by 4 inches, which would still be above stock I guess. They took it down 16" even though they ordered the parts to just lower it 4" from where it was. Somebody didn't get the memo. I don't know what happened yet.

He is looking into it, I don't know yet. They did some serious modification so its not just a bolt on mistake.

I do know he said he paid $1600, I don't think he would go to a crap shop, he isn't poor or known to do that stuff. He has a nice E30 as well. But yeah, any time I have had some kind of modification my guy always takes me through it. I had my 240Z dog legs fixed before I did the rest of it and we also reinforced the frame where Datsun has a thin piece of metal end cap, we discussed it all, but that wasn't lowering or cutting anything.

They lowered it 16" from where it had been modified before. He just wanted 4" off the height he bought it at. Partly because it was hard to fit in garages in SF.

Like I said I don't know what happened but they didn't need to cut anything for 4" below stock right? That looks lower.

When he gets it all settled I'm sure I will hear about it! I have to take a show out this week so I will be busy. We'll see how long it takes for him to get something done, they may never say what happened. Could all end up in court for all I know.

Was there a 12" lift when he took it in there?
Please follow up when your friend gives you some more details. I want to see what it looked like before hand.

Agreed! I would've been pretty paranoid myself 'bout something like that. Even just to understand how they'd do it, because I know some shops would just lower a car by chopping the springs.

Looks like the ideal setup for a truck that you can not only drive, but then you can use the wheels to sit on, not hit your head on the body AND look stupid all at the same time!
