Holy shit dude.

Look at it, closely. My dad had one of these way back when, same year, same engine (if Im remembering this correctly). His was not a dragster, just a regular street car.

Just go look now damnit!

I say the "someone else's project rule" gets a pass for restoring 70's and previous cars, because it's pretty difficult to find one that hasn't been someone's project.

Tell your parents or sympathetic adult figures to help scrap together the $5000 and work out a plan to pay them back. It will pay for itself in smiles per gallon over time. The running motor is worth 5k as it sits.

My birthday is coming up, and I bonded with the "Old Man" (his actual name is Paul) who has QUITE the assortment of cars. He has; 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible 389 Tri-Power 4 speed in Nocturnal Blue, a green 1970 Nova with a SONNY'S DRAG RACING 540 V8 Pro-Street/Mod, a 2013 C6 Grand Sport and a 1990s econoline for business stuff and hauling shit for when he drag races the Nova (which runs a 10.84 1/4 mile). So I guess he could help.

It's a damn good thing that is about as far away from me as you can get in the contiguous 48. I'd love to give that thing a good home.

All '68 Cobra Jet vehicles carried an R code in the VIN. For '69 Qs were used to designate non-R/A CJs and Rs for R/A cars.

Also the add doesn't specify the Fairlane as being an original CJ car and doesn't show the VIN, it just says the engine is an "early date code" CJ. So if the it's is an original CJ car maybe the engine's date code falls in the correct range.

Still NP all damn day. Crazy NP if it's real.

Nope, ALL '68 CJ cars carried an R as the 5th digit in the VIN. From Hemmings:

"Later in the 1968 model year—April 1, 1968, to be exact—Ford made the R-code Cobra Jet 428 available in all intermediates save for station wagons. While the R-code usually designated a Ram Air version of the Cobra Jet 428, all 1968 Torino GTs equipped with the Cobra Jet came with the non-Ram Air version."

Also, Tarpon Springs? That's not too far from me. Hmmm...... I'm not in the market for a car, but I might be in the market for a mid-term investment. Hmm..........

I just got Charlie pretty much perfect. I don't want to put effort into a project, and I don't give a shit about cosmetics while everyone else seems to. Hmm.... Quick paint job, tune (if the engine's running, it can probably be made to run pretty great without too much effort), .....??, profit? FUCK!

DO YOU KNOW ANY GOOD RESTO SHOPS??!!! I know there's an awesome Ford restoration shop down in Safety Harbor that just restored a 1949 F-100 and a 67' mustang and did an awesome job on both.

I can't restore it myself as schoolwork is priority, so this idea maybe postponed til after May 15th (when AP exams are done).

No. The only way to turn a profit is to do the work yourself, and even then it will be a labor of love more than anything.

I don't have a fabricator for metalworking, I'm sorry I won't get Tavarish points for doing a DAMN FULL EXTERIOR RESTO WHILE BEING A 16 YEAR OLD STUDENT. I can do maintenance and some engine working.

It doesn't look like it would need much fab work, but that's judging by not many pictures. I'd guess that bondo and paint should do the trick to get it like 90% there.
