Update on the car search

Pending an MOT pass it looks like my parents are buying a Citroen Saxo 1.1 for £500. I haven't seen it yet so I doubt it looks as good as the one in the photo, but if it's roadworthy it's worth the £500.

Quite decent cars, those. Oppo reader KirkyV has the Peugeot version, the 106, and I believe he's rather happy with his. I also have a PSA vehicle from that era (a 406 coupe), which is an absolutely great and trouble free car. Mine has zero rust, which might be relevant as if I recall correctly the Citroën has to replace a rusted to death Nissan.

Haha i was waiting for you to comment. I'm happy they found one since it's better than some of the junk in that price range. Saxos and 106s are surprisingly hard to come by.

They are quite fun to drive, even with the 1.1 :)

I'd have recommended a Hyundai (decent car with no image so cheap) but I suppose if they're getting a reasonably rust free Citroen and don't plan on testing out its crashworthiness it should be OK.

Indeed, I'm lucky my sister found mine. I think it's largely a function of their age crossed with their relative popularity amongst teenage drivers and idiots.

I havent seen it myself but im told its rust free. Most stuff in this price range has garbage crash protection anyway.

Yeah most likely. There are still a few 1.1s around but the 1.4s and vtrs are mostly fartcanned or scrapped.

Yeah it is replacing a rusted out car. The on they've found is supposedly rust free I live a fair few miles away from them so I wont see it till I get chance to visit.

They seem like decent little cars.

It's even harder to find GTis and VTSs. I think the VTR had a higher proportion of daft owners, relatively speaking, but they made so many more of them that even with all the crashing, scrapping and modding, they're still more common than their higher-performance siblings.

Are they gonna put big rimz on it and a loud exhaust? Or do they come that way from the factory? Don't forget giant sub woofers

It's a shame that idiots end up being the primary market for these cars. Older civic type Rs are going the same way I've noticed, havent seen one without a fart can in a long time.

He just sent me another car theyre looking at incase this Saxo doesnt pass the MOT. An X reg 1.0 Corsa... Oh dear. 0-60 in a blazing 16 seconds.

I'll convince him away from it. Once he realises it's even slower than the Micra its replacing hell change his mind.
