So I found this deal on Groupon and Living Social for a chance to drive 3 laps in a Ferrari 360 or Lamborghini Gallardo for $99($129 for a F430). Seems like a cool experience although even with the Groupon discount it seems a bit pricey. Still I went ahead and bought it since I doubt a mere mortal like me will have any other chance to drive a Ferrari. Anyone else done one of these events or plan on doing one? BTW here is the link to the offer online if anyone in the Oregon/Washington is interested. If I get 3 other people to buy one then mine will be free!

Somebody on Oppo posted something a wee tad more critical of the offer:

Shit, if i lived near by I'd buy one too! I mean fuck You can spend $50 for 20 laps in an electric go kart around here. I'd rather get three laps of a real track in a real car like those for $99!

I've wanted to do one, but it's a bit expensive. Normally, it's more than an actual track-day for only a few laps. While it would be cool to drive a Ferrari on track, I already have a loud, flat-pane crank, mid-engined, red supercar, so I'd rather just get many, many laps in that.

I did one last year.
Groupon for Autocrossing with no assists at Brand Hatch for £63.
Here are the cars I drove, each got ten laps.

Wow, fees for going over 5k? What's the point?

Yes, you will technically be driving a Ferrari. No, you will not be driving it very quickly or anywhere near the limit. If you're doing it to say you've driven a Ferrari then by all means, go for it, but if you're doing it to have fun driving, then look elsewhere.
Personally I know I'd have more fun in a shitty rental bombing around some fun roads than I would tip-toeing a Ferrari around a parking lot on a very short leash.

Lol, may as well just go to a real autocross.

20 laps flat out is always more fun than three laps being told to slow down.

Why?

What's the track and any idea what average lap times are? For $100 you ought to get a solid 10 minutes of track time, and be able to wring the snot out of it.
My reasoning is that when I was in Italy a few years ago, I rented an 458 for €260 (about $300) for 30 minutes. And they sent me out with an instructor ON THE STREET, and let me flog the hell out of it. I had to agree to a $10,000 deductible if I wrecked it, but that was it.
Now obviously grouponing at a local track is a far cry from traveling to Italy, but but 3 laps for $100 in a 360 seems like a bit of a stretch unless its a long track.
Just a thought.

My local is $20 for the test and tune day, and I usually get 10-15 runs in.

they do hit 50mph too. but the lack of being able to reach behind ones self and pegging the throttle beyond where it's set, still makes me sad.
"hey! stop over rev'ing the go karts!"
ah the, the sounds of my youth.

You will never be able to wring the snot out of a car on any of these bargain "drive an exotic" deals.

Yeah, I understand that. Which is kind of my point, it's not really a "deal" if I have to drive it like a pansy. It's like going to a strip club and getting a lap dance... why? For the same or less money you could just buy a hooker.
I mean, on my Ferrari drive I had an instructor with me, and I'm sure he would have put a stop to things real fast if I had gotten out of line. We were also on the street so I couldn't exactly go nuts. But there was a moment when he looked around and goes "You see policia? Ok, byebye!", waved his hand, and I pinned it and made full throttle 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. And I was able to get into it hard a few other times. Like I said, I was on the hook if I wrecked it, but they also didn't treat me unfairly with fine print and hidden fees for revving over 5k and stuff like that.
Based on the above link to someone elses review, this thing sounds like a scam more than anything else. Maybe I should look into getting an exotic and starting a groupon deal.

Whatever car I want as long as it's not too unsafe. I used to bring my BRZ, but now I bring my MR2. Being an autocross, it's a different crowd from the usual car meet people. I'm good friends with alot of the people there, and drive their cars all of the time. Let's see in the last year I've driven an e36 M3, e46 M3 with a supercharger, e30 with an S52 swap (AMAZING!), GT3RS (seriously, the guy brings it every time), Mercedes Csomethingorother (guy wanted a benchmark for his car - it was slow), Caymans, Miatas, RX8s, Minis, custom builds, whatever. If you're a consistent driver and are out there enough for people to know that you're not going to destroy their car, people will usually let you drive them. There has been a really nice old couple who started showing up in a Formula 500 car not too long ago. I think I'm going to try to get into that next.

Wow, that's actually pretty quick. At those speeds, track layout is what's going to matter the most. 50 mph is plenty if you don't get to it very often, but if it's one of those ones where you can just keep your right foot down, then yeah, that gets old.

Completely agree with you. And any company nitpicking over-revs and killed cones is doomed from the get-go. Those are costs of doing business with expensive cars, and should be factored into the larger scheme of things.
I will say that street drive type events will get you a bit more leniency than the ones in parking lots. I know because I used to lead something similar for CCC.

There was a post about this a few days ago. Is this the one where you cannot take it past 5000 RPM and a whole bunch of other red tape issues? Certainly not knocking your decision to buy, just wondering if it is the same one.

I did one last year — Gotham Dream Car Sprint - and because of some accounting issues they let me drive four extra laps.
It's fun even if you only get to wind it out in second gear a while. I drove two cars that I would never be able to afford at my current level.
