Saw a VPG MV-1 on the road today. It is not often that I come across a vehicle that I had no idea existed. Interesting, if short lived, story. Built at an AM General facility and designed specifically to suit disabled passengers with a built in ADA spec ramp.
VPG end up going out of business, but AM General has picked up the pieces. Box on frame chassis with a Ford power train. Not a looker, but doing some good work.

I suggested one to a friend, and I know someone with one too. here's one I saw earlier this week with a crippled car.

I see them from time to time. They are powered by a Ford 4.6l V8 if memory serves. The first one that I saw up close was black. I am not handicapped nor do I know anyone who is, and yet I still want one...

yeah, they're powered by 4.6's. I still feel they could have picked something a bit better suited for the weight of the vehicle, with low-end torque.

I only know about it because of Jalopnik a long time ago, I've never seen one in the wild.

I rode in one in Chicago last year, they seem to have a decent amount in their taxi fleet. Actually a really smooth ride and acres of space inside.
AM General was originally the contract assembler, but bought the whole business when VPG went bankrupt. Supposedly, they've been considering doing a version with a front passenger seat, too.

haha random I saw one for the first time today too, glad I know what it is. It had stickers for the metro line on it so I guess its one of those door to door pickup ones
