However, as has been pointed out to me (and according to my own Googling), no one else has picked this up, plus James May's last tweet is the own about how it has been a week since the incident.
In other Clarkson news, there's this.

And just when they were about to do awesome stuff...
From wikipedia:
"Series 22, Episode 8"
Subaru WRX STi
•
VW Golf R
The trio go for a drive in the countryside in classic convertibles:
( Fiat 124 Spider • MGB GT • Peugeot 304 Cabriolet )
"Series 22, Episode 9"
None
The trio are challenged to each purchase a second hand SUV on the cheap and see who got the best deal. Also, Jeremy is on and off the track in a trio of luxurious limousines.
This sucks donkey balls. I am genuinely upset and angry and most of all just very sad.
Angry at Clarkson for being an inspiration and a great companion through the last I don't know how many years, but at the same time being such an idiot and ruining this. Fucking steak or whatever it was.
Shit.

What makes you say that?

Wait for something official. I think Clarkson's piece was simply an attempt to show the BBC he doesn't care about their decision. If they allow him to stay, I'm sure he will.. but he's threatening that it's not entirely their choice.

The "dinosaur" bit could very well have been referencing the BBC.. and not Clarkson. Claiming they're unwilling to move with the times and resolve issues - causing *quality* employment to go elsewhere (him) and thus going extinct.
Killing off the World's largest television show is a pretty stupid move, brawl or not.
Also.. they weren't at work. If I go out after work with friends and end up fighting.. I don't get fired. We weren't at work.

Talks about dinosaurs. Could be referring to anything, maybe the dude likes dinosaurs.
Article links to an article on the same site so I just ignored that completely.
"
UPDATE:
Captain Slow confirmed that Top Gear is kaput in a not-so-cryptic manner."
Okay, where was that exactly, where he said it had been a week? Pretty sure that was common knowledge.
About the most solid part of that article is the link to the Mirror article, but that doesn't say anything about him quitting or Top Gear being done. It pretty much ends with "If Clarkson is cleared and reinstated the programmes could be finished and shown at a later date."
So yeah, that was a terrible article and I feel bad for having read it.

If this is the case, it's sad but it had to happen sometime. Honestly I'd rather TG be over and something in a different format rise up to take it place instead of just waiting for TG to become all but unwatchable. It started wearing a bit thin a while ago, and I'd love to delighted all over again by something in a fresh style I've never seen before.
That being said, it did a hell of a lot for making people who normally aren't into cars take a bit of interest, and it will definitely be part of the enthusiast canon for decades to come. I haven't watched it in a long time, but maybe I'll fire up one of my old favorites this week.

"Radical" claims on a small automotive site I've never heard of before. Not a single other site in the entire autojournalism world substantiating said claims, even after 12 hours have passed since the original article. Sounds like trolling for hits to me. I'm calling shenanigans until someone else picks up the story.

BBC quoted him as saying something like, sometimes you have to drop the monsters and move on.

Yeah it probably makes the most money, maybe Doctor Who but Top Gear gets more distribution I bet and Stig stuff. I bet they can't afford to drop them, the BBC is not exactly swimming in cash these days.
