Totally shocked McLaren-Honda was that far off pace. Not even making it to Q2. I know it's their first season with the Honda power plant but wow. Anyone else stunned?

Yes, very. I expect that they're ratcheting it back to avoid losing an engine too early in the season, but I certainly didn't expect that kind of performance. Once they're more confident about reliability I'm sure they'll turn it up a bit, but this makes me doubt how much they've really got in them.

Yeah, 7 seconds of pole is huge. I'm sure they're trying to maintain the engine a bit, but I don't know how they can gain nearly enough time while staying reliable enough to last the season.

Also glad to see the rookies doing so well. Always keeps it interesting.

I figured, like everyone else, that Mclaren would be off the pace but I had no idea how much off the pace they would be. Even if Alonso would have been racing they may have not made it into Q2. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much Ferrari has gained over the winter and how far Red Bull seemed to have dropped off. I was also impressed by the Toro Rossa rookies, I think it was Sanz that is starting even higher on the grid than Riccarido, either the Toro Rossa car is better than the Red Bull or the drivers are damn good! Overall it should be a very interesting race!

No, they've been headed for something like this. It's not as bad as it looks, they just haven't managed enough testing to be ready for the start of the season.

I guess I'm kind of surprised but considering how unreliable the car has been over the winter it makes sense that they are way off pace. I really wanted this reunification to be successful from the start but it looks like they could be in for a disastrous 2015. I hope they get their shit together...and fast.

I've heard Hpnda went up into double digits in terms of engines used in testing. That does not bode well for a season where they can only use four engines.

That said, they're either in the same position as Renault last year. Piss poor reliability that sort of improved towards the end of the season (though Vettel actually did snag a penalty towards the end too because of the power unit regs). Or Honda is running way down on power until they improve reliability and/or whatever software issues are plaguing them.

In short, nope, no surprise they failed to deliver considering they're a year of development behind and stringent testing regs well you know.
