Brings back memories as a toddler.

We had a Taurus wagon in the family, and I enjoyed the jumper seats.

That song is so fucking horrible. Trying so damned hard, like those middle-class families, who just couldn't afford a proper Japanese import. "It sorta looks like a Camry, so it must be great!"

My mom had a 2ng gen Taurus (and later, a bubble Taurus). It was a great car, actually. I recall that on a long trip, it would pull about 30 mpgs, and that was at 65 mph with a V6. Not too shabby.

But that fucking song... ugh.

You basically just described the 80s. Also, remember that the "aero" Taurus predates (or arrived at the same time, I suppose) the first "aero" Camry. The Camry on offer at that time (V10) looked sorta like this:

Also, the Taurus jingle is fairly tame compared to some other car advertising of the era (I'm lookin' at you, Black Gold Datsun). Heck, even the Camry commercial of the same year is full of schlock:

Basically, the 80s were a hell of a drug.

I really hope some of those 1st ten Taurii survive. They may be Beige family cars now, but I don't think it can be overstated just how crazy those cars were when these ads came out, and how important they were in saving Ford. Just remember its contemporary competition:

And don't forget the LTD it replaced
