Tossing this back out there to the Oppo community since it's that time of year again. Anyone thinking of doing their 1st autocross, read below. It's a lot of fun, pretty cheap, and really easy to prepare for. Good luck!

One thing I would add (btw ive only been autocrossing once) is when you do your course walk. Go through it with someone experienced with your kind of car or drivetrain setup; ie if you have FWD do the walk with someone else with FWD. The first time I did a walkthrough I did it with the newcomers group. When I went through the second time with the Civic Si and Fiesta guys they had different lines and and suggestions. Also on braking in turns... with a FWD trail braking can increase the load on the front tires increasing traction, helping turn in for very tight corners.

Yes, most certainly. I started with FWD (Prelude) and switched to RWD (Mustang GT) and it was a different experience. Which meant better planning during the walkthrough so you knew that “ok here I’ll oversteer into a pole, let’s plan for that”.

Know what you mean there. That first corner on that race I went to was REALLY tight. All the RWD and AWD guys were kinda slinging/drifting the car through that corner but I had to slow WAAY down to avoid understeer.

Take a look at

, I wrote up some thoughts of my last FWD autoX experience in a Focus ST. It was odd how it rotated off of throttle, haven’t had that experience in a FWD in awhile.
