I know most people here don't share my pacifist beliefs, but damn, it's a warzone on the FP

Thank you! I get that planes and tanks are cool and have engines, and a lot of people like both that and cars, but come on. I used to go into the articles to try and figure out what they had to do with cars. I learned long ago to ignore everything from Tyler.
I don't even care about the pacifism aspect, I just wanna read about cars and car tech, not skim an essay on the gulf war that would put most history teachers to sleep, to try and figure out what it has to do with cars (spoiler alert: nothing).

I don't like armed conflicts or the fact that many companies are making huge profits from the weapon business. But I do like old fighting vehicles.

It's updated with enough regularity that it should be its own site, but since we're dealing with Gawker Media, I'm not surprised they stuck it here. It has pretty much nothing to do with cars, but since Gawker's concept of what car people are like seems to be based on this one pickup truck Nick Denton saw once that was covered in stickers portraying Dale Earnhardt with angel wings and a handwritten sign saying "EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT ISLAM I LEARNED ON 9/11" on it, I guess they stuck it here. Honestly, it's a better fit for Gawker itself, since they're convinced somehow that they are a serious news outlet and not primarily a blog about how Beyonce totally pooped her pants but they don't care because they're so above everything because they, like, live in New York.
I've adapted to ignoring it. I don't often get political here, but I'm the kind of quinoa-eating, latte-sipping, NPR listening, elitist New England tax-and-spend liberal that is ruining America according to that one uncle everybody avoids at Thanksgiving. I think the best way to support our troops is to bring them all home and stop sending them overseas to add to the list of regions we've destabilized and turned into enemies. I'd rather my government spend my tax dollars on things like education and infrastructure and healthcare and science of new and expensive ways to make the world's most absurdly advanced military even more adept at using technology to kill brown people who aren't even a threat to our "freedom". Articles about how the Air Force has a new stealth drone that can drop incendiaries on a wedding party with unprecedented accuracy are not something I want to see, and they do not belong on a car blog. They just don't.
I can appreciate all the hard work that Tyler puts into Foxtrot Alpha, and I don't want anybody to think that I feel he shouldn't be doing what he's doing at all, but it's not content that should be published on a car blog.

I quite enjoy the articles despite my (allegedly left-leaning) political beliefs. It's a welcome holdover from when Planelopnik was a semi-frequent feature. Those made the front page then as well, although such stories were less common than Foxtrot Alpha updates.
In any case, I go direct to the source if I'm looking for them. And really, 2 out of 20 stories on the front page is barely "everywhere", so to speak.

Tyler does pretty great articles IMO. I like reading about planes and tanks and stuff though.

The option to just not click or scroll right past them is always there. I exercise it frequently with any bullshit celebrity worship articles! If seeing a headline about some new military acquisition or an old cargo bird makes you feel as if Cheney and Rumsfeld just sat down at your dinner table, maybe that's an issue you need to address on your own. There are thousands more Jalopnik readers who do appreciate the shared stories and those clicks help feed coal into the engine that hauls our precious automotive comedy news site around.

Jalopnik, Foxtrot Alfa, Flightclub(planeoplik) target audience interests. Jalopnik would have to be 2x the size. Foxtrot and Flightclub aren't big enough and if they are their own site wouldn't get enough visits and visits=money.

I think they belong some class of "restricted weapons" so it might be possible that they aren't going to be released to surplus markets. They would probably be quite cheap if they would be sold.
I think that B-29 is the prettiest of all bombers. The sleek looking nose came as bonus due to the pressurized hull that was unique among US planes during WWII.

As a vet, I really like Tyler's articles, he really does a good job. And I get the overlap, I'd say a majority of the people that come here probably have at least some interest in military stuff. But you're right, there's been a lot of FA articles popping up lately. Frankly if he keeps it up, I think Tyler needs to get his own blog, but I don't see it happening with Gawker.

The technology is amazing, you have to admit. However it is completely depressing that one B2 bomber costs about the same as every 918, P1, and LaF combined ($2+ billion). I wish we could use our money on other things.

Heh, I'm also a pinko left-wing America-ruiner. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one here!
Whenever I see an article about some new multi-billion-dollar technology that allows us to kill more people more effectively, all I can think of is what we could do if we were putting that kind of money into not killing people. It's depressing. I can see how, from a purely technological perspective, people can get excited over these developments, but only if you wilfully ignore what it's actually going to be used for.

Pictures an Alfa Romeo that was enthusiastically supported by Mussolini ;)
Just kidding! I'm no fan of armed conflict or obscene (or misguided, as Tyler so aptly points out) military spending either, but I do find the machinery fascinating, particularly old stuff.
Solution? Don't visit the FP, for it is a path to trolling and despair. Oppo has cookies.

It is. And we could. If only we could resist the urge to blow up little villages in the Middle East.
