I kinda want to buy some old junker bike and re-build it over the summer...Keep track of costs, buy some tools and what not. And maybe even flip it for a profit at the end.
thoughts?

Did it for a while. If you're going older than 1995 or so you'll want to get one that's in or near running and a parts bike if you can swing it. Its totally doable without but you'll have more shipping down time.

approve,
A friend of mine just got a CB500 basketcase for a project, it cost him a case of beer..
My Dad just picked up a nice 82 GS400 for a couple hundred.
I'm looking for a Ruckus to 'save some money' haha..

Fix mine. It'll be easy I promise, then I'll get it inspected & insured so I can ride in flip flops & shorts with a wife beater
That's actually my old bike, I now own my brothers 01 R1 with a busted clutch.

Find an old gold wing. I've seen those going for dirt cheap. The upside is that it's a Honda, it's probably still going to run after the universe itself dies.

I have two thoughts...
1. Pick a bike that if you don't get a decent offer for, it would be something you wouldn't mind hanging onto and riding yourself. I have suggested the same approach when it comes to restoring an old car.
2. Who do I have to speak to so that I am able to post to the Cigar Lounge? Thanks!

I don't see how you can do this. I mean you are the person who said he wouldn't touch a carburetor, right?
Well, I guess you could do a junker bike. Just not an old junker bike.
If you do it, just inspect the hell out of it first. That way you know everything you need. I thought I would be in the Ninja for $1200 total, and I'm at $17-1800. I've also still got the paint to do on it. (A lot of the extra expense is the additional shipping I had to pay for parts from the mainland.)
Also, I have found this to be the best excuse for adding new tools to your collection that I have ever found.

I hate working with carbs. Doesnt mean I wont touch them
I was thinking some old gold wing or something, and make it a cafe racer. I know its not going to be a good cafe racer, but I might as well start somewhere. Wasnt going to spend more then 700 on it

It sounds like a fun idea. I have the same thoughts about starting somewhere. Sure it won't be great, but that's how you learn, right.
