Both look more form than function. I like the one in the right, even though it seems like it would severely cut the leading gripping finger if actually used.

Yeah you'd want a guard of some sort, for example, my beat up WWII era KA-BAR it was designed for, well, stabbing so it has a guard. The knife on the right is a bit of a multiuse blade, might be good for camping.

My thoughts mirror yours. I used to collect knives and swords (even used them for when I participated in local Renaissance Faires; yes, I'm a nerd), but adult things like a house, marriage, food, cars, etc., forced me to sell most of them off, so I only admire from a virtual distance now.
