Cleaned up and painted control arms, installed polyurethane bushings and installed new balljoints. Now I just need an alignment because my highly calibrated eyeball ain't gonna cut it.

Should have taken more pics of the process, oh well.

Kinja'd!!!

Now onto some rust repair since MR2 mudflaps are sooo great at collecting salt and dirt. :(

Those control arms are so beautiful.

Your tierod isn't fused together, is it? Might not be able to get it aligned like that.

Not sure, I meant to try to spin them, but ran out of time. I'm thinking about just going ahead and buying new beefy ones while I'm at it.

Matrix Garage and Two-r-us both sell some, but I'm leaning towards matrix garage

I wish I had gotten the ones with a smaller offset, but they're pretty sweet and only about 9.5 lbs each without the tires.

I wanted to get some for my car but they're only really available if theres a group buy to get custom ones made, or get a set re-drilled. I missed the last group buy for 18x9's with the flat face ):

I run the TwosRUs ones, mostly because Yoshimitsu, the guy that runs MatrixGarage, hadn't developed his yet when I bought mine. Also, I find the guy to be very........abrasive.

Oh sweet, I didn't think that MG's ones were out yet. I'm kind of curious as to whether or not anyone else tried his stress tests. He acknowledges that his results could be wrong, but the OEM ones outperforming the TwosRUs one really surprised me considering the size difference.

Yeah I know what you mean about Yoshi being abrasive. I've noticed that plenty of times in the two main MR2 forums.

That said, his tie-rods are decidedly beefier. It's probably way overkill unless you do circuit racing or stage rallies.

Have you had any trouble with your twos-r-us tie rods?

Yeah, he is. I'd still buy from him though. The guy's been a wellspring of knowledge and experience forever.

Yeah they seem to do them in batches, so they're on backorder at the moment. I was surprised to see how strong the stock ones were as well.

Not at all. They've been on the car like 3-4 years now.

I've not had any issues with my TwosRUs ones either. I might pick up some MG ones as a backup since mine sees track use and should start hitting some stage rallies by later this year, but I'm really surprised that these ones break. They're significantly beefier than the stock ones.

I'm just about to replace some inner/outer tierods on my truck, just as soon as I replace the exhaust manifolds..

Am I sick that I'm looking forward to starting work on it? It's been so cold I didn't want to work on it at all but yesterday was almost 70* and now I just want to get it jacked up and start working on getting the manifold bolts out.

That rust isn't too bad. The previous owner of my AW11 gobbed on massive amounts of Bondo behind the rear wheel, so the mud flap won't go on one side. I'll probably have to cut off that section and weld in a repair panel.
