In this night's Top Gear a huge argument about the actual weight if the Alfa 4C broke out, with Jeremy claiming that Alfa doesn't actually reveal it's curb weight. Hmmm.... sounds a bit made up. Went on to watch the new episode of 5th Gear, and there you have it. Vicky claims it's 920kg. Someone is lying, and my bet is that it's not Vicky. As much as I love TG, it's stuff like this that puts people off. What for?
The whole Porsche/Ferrari/McLaren thing is probably scripted as well, just to build up momentum for the final episode.
It's been clear that TG has been all about show for quite a while now, and that they don't let actual facts come in their way, but I'm afraid that them turning the nonsense to 11 might do more damage to than help expand the brand.

Top Gear was one of those shows I kind of lost interest in after season 5 or 6. Mostly for this exact reason. Any reason I should start watching again?

They both are. It is actually 925 Kg... probably.

It has also been 895 kg. Probably.
American ones are 995 kg. Probably.
Aussie ones are 1,025 kg. Apparently, although I can't imagine why as they get EU spec ones.

Thing is they can put in a brochure what the kerb weight is but who's to say the guys at TG UK didn't ask for the actual weight and got no reply.
It might sound odd but without knowing what they actually asked to Alfa it sounds silly to say Alfa didn't reply when that is quite simply what they could of done.

It takes more weight to hold them upside down.

Manufacturers claimed weights tend to be works of fiction. I've seen road tests where the car is weighed in real life as it were and it's always heavier than the claim, some times by something approaching 100 kg.

Yes, that could be true.
They may have to have roo bars fitted too, because Oz.

Exactly. TG UK may of simply said 'we've seen your claimed kerb weight, but what is it really?'.

If you lost interest back in 2004, boy are you in for a shock in 2015.

This season has been the best in years. It seems as though their hearts are in it again instead of them just showing up for the paychecks.

Top gear can afford to put the damn car on a scale and know for sure what every car they test weighs.

Top Gear doesn't worry about little things like facts getting in the way of their agenda. If they want to slander a car, they will do it any way they can think of.

Didn't see much fact-mingling there. SAE hp figures, DIN hp figures, and actual hp at the driven wheel... I think the Mustang put out a pretty accurate figure there.

SAE horsepower is how all cars are rated. SAE rates engines at the flywheel, not the driven wheels. The GT500 makes MORE than it's rated to, but Top Gear makes it look like it's over rated.

Others might say that DIN is how all engines are rated. It's just a matter of perspective. SAE is at the flywheel WITHOUT any of the stuff that the engine needs to work, like a waterpump, or an oilpump, or the alternator....
The horsepower rating at the wheel for the Mustang was just realistic. And 400+ (I don't remember the exact number) AT THE WHEEL means that it might even have a few more ponies. No harm no foul!

The point is, the top Gear segment was misleading about the power figures.
