My son has this ratty old toy car (Maisto) I had never pad much attention too. Today I got curious! It is actually a protoype midengine sportscar from Nissan called the MID4.
Jalopnik did a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on it in the past, but I hadn't heard of it.

It was originally developed in 1984 and exhibited at a few shows. It would have been a pretty awesome car for the time, but production costs were too expensive.
The updated Type II from 1987 had a sleeker look that I think would have been competitive with the NSX. It could produce 330 horsepower from a twin turbo V6.
It had a distinctive bump for the engine.

Oh God I remember this. A magazine I subscribe to run a competition every month for readers to identify a mystery car. The MID4 came up and because that month's prize was a Hayne's manual which are hard to come by in HK, I went berserk researching info about it and sent it in. Fortunately, I won x)

very cool! I just got a 1/18 TVR Speed 12 that I learned I didn't know much about. I was thinking it was the Cerbera Speed 12 that everyone knows, but this was actually a prototype of it. It's a pretty interesting story

Now there is a pretty model! Headlights are a bit scary, kind of like a 4C ;)

Yeah its good that these protoypes get a second life in diecast being enjoyed by many, even though they were never a production auto.

The Maisto model is a copy of a Tomica casting. Heres mine, also not perfect, but they are hard to find.
