Kinja'd!!!

I know its part of the depression, but it still amazes me how I can be feeling pretty okay, even for a couple days straight, even through fights w/ the S.O., even when I sit there and think about how I really have no plan for this life... And then that one song comes out of nowhere - maybe you've heard it before, maybe its brand new to you - and it just hits you like a dump truck.

Even more amazing, in this case, that it's a song about coming up from the bottom, a song of personal triumph, and yet (thanks depression) in the moment it serves as a reminder of where you still want to be, and are so very far away from.

Still, its a beautiful song. I don't care that she got pitchy in spots, or her voice is cracking like Kelbaker Road... I think it only adds to the message of the song; that starting over from scratch isn't easy, but that you need to remember why it is you're starting over.

I need a long highway.

Yeah, I was unfortunate in that I actually saw The Distiller open for Garbage and No Doubt way back when, waaaaay before I was ready for that kind of music (I was there for No Doubt, and in a much different place in life). I barely remember the Distillers set now... wish I could do it over and hear them live again.

I've listened thru Diploid Love once, and my first impression is that it was too polished, too digital. Maybe I was expecting it to be more Distillers. I need to give it another shot, in its own context.

But this one-off little jam session... Ugh, she just kills me with that gravel-throat. I love it so much.

Yeah.. I used to love No doubt Myself, years ago.. But Brody.. she's just Brody.. One of my best friends is pretty much like her in fact.. Gravely voice, kinda beefy for a woman.. She'll kick your teeth in if you don't behave :P

Music speaks the language of the soul my friend. Starting over is a blessing, if you think about it. I recently started over too, from scratch. Keep your chin up :)

completely agree - I'm not a huge fan of Brody, but there is music that does the same for me. The sound, not even the lyrics, is incredibly inspirational and powerful. Honestly, I have to be careful - there is some music I would pump into my head as loud as I could just to absorb.

And you are right about the long highway - volume on 11, foot matted to the floor, big, wide grin.
