Hey oppo,

If you were to guess, based on public perception and annual snowfall, i'd be willing to bet you would all think that my home of Ithaca NY, in upstate NY, would be good at clearing snow.

You'd be wrong, really wrong. I've lived all over new england and every town or city i lived in, regardless of size or budget, plowed down to asphalt or dirt and then salted. But not here, not in new york.

Here plows leave an inch of snow under the blade, and on nights with less than 2 inches just... leave it!

Well they must salt! thought every sensible human. NOPE. Just on hills, and we just ran out (not like the fucking cargill salt mine is IN TOWN or anything).

SO what does that leave us? Usually it leaves me frustrated and slushy for a few days, but not this winter. This winter it hasn't been warmer than 10f in about a month. this winter all that road snow turns into ruts and piles, and ice.

SO what does this have to do with the exhaust on noise's scion? Well I scraped my whole undercarriage on a lovely pile of ice the other day and resultantly one of the shoddier welds on my exhaust pipe (attaching a mounting thing) gave up its shit and left me a pea sized hole in the exhaust.

Problems:

it sounds bad
I need an inspection soon

Anyone have any better ideas than an exhaust bandage? i do not have a location in which to weld, or my welder, so thats out. If it was my jeep i'd stuff some aluminum foil in there and call it a day. Figured i'd ask

Anything run by Ithaca is going to be awful. Pretty much everywhere else around here (well Horseheads and Watkins Glen for me) is great at clearing snow when they actually do it but throw in the city of Ithaca and all that goes out the window.

There is an alternative, if: there's no catalytic converter or expansion weave in the pipe - just replace it at the nearest joint. It's not much money, if it doesn't include those other elements.

If it *does* include those [expensive] elements, then punt and wrap, bolt, or plug the hole for the inspection until you can afford to replace/get time to replace the issue.

luckily its downwind of the cat and resonator, upwind of the muffler. Right at a bend, on a mount weld.

Best i can tell, a previous owner threw a cat-back on here, looks to be about a 2 inch pipe, but didnt spring for stainless and did the welds himself.

so yeah i'll probably just jury rig hit till i replace it with a stainless cat-back

the question you should be asking is: "why don't I have this?"

no shit right, this fucking town.

I really like both horseheads and the glen actually, bought this car from a nice old guy out by horseheads. I doubt he put the offending cat-back on there, but you southern tier types and your cat-back exhausts and rock-n-roll music!

We're a bit of a different breed out here, that's for sure. But then Ithaca and most Ithacans are just completely ridiculous
