Like the manual transmission the number of V8 engines is rapidly shrinking, to the point it may disappear some day. So lets have a look at what V8s are available today in the home of the brave V8, the USA.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
First off it's the non luxury cars (lets say sub~$60k). The good 'ol pony car trio are still representing V8s just fine. The Dodge Charger and low volume Chevy SS are keeping the V8 sedan alive and well, no more Chrysler 300 V8 though . Interesting Hyundai and Kia are now representing the V8 better than a lot of other companies.
Ford Mustang - $32k - 435hp
Dodge Challenger - $32k - 375hp+
Dodge Charger - $33k - 370hp+
Chevrolet Camaro - $34k - 426hp+
Chevrolet SS (Super Sport) - $46k - 415hp
Chrysler 300 $45k
Hyundai Genesis - $51k - 420hp
Chevrolet Corvette - $53k - 455hp+
Kia K900 - $54k - 420hp
Hyundai Equus - $62k - 429hp
For entry level sports sedan/coupes Lexus, Mercedes and Audi still offer NA V8s. It seems likely that all of them will move to turbo V6s next generation, or possibly turbo V8s. BMW and Cadillac are going the route of turbo 6s and if Infiniti ever gets into the game they will too.
Lexus RC F - $62k - 467hp
Mercedes C63 AMG - $63k - 451hp
Cadillac CTS-V coupe - $71k - 556hp
Audi RS5 - $71k - 450hp
Midsize luxury cars used to be champions of V8s. Today however, the crowd is getting thinned. Mercedes seems to be phasing out the 550 models (no 550 sedans), leaving only the AMG with eight cylinders. You wont find a V8 in a Cadillac CTS or Lexus GS, but both will have one in their upcoming performance models (CTS-V and GS-F).
Mercedes E550 coupe/63 AMG - $60k - 402hp
Infiniti Q70 - $63k - 420hp
Audi S6 - $71k - 450hp
BMW 550/M5 - $73k - 443hp
Jaguar XF/XFR - $73k - 470hp
Mercedes CLS - $73k
Audi S7/RS7- $84k
BMW 650/M6 - $97k
Full size luxury is an eight cylinder stronghold, and likely will be for years to come.
Lexus LS460 - $73k
Audi A8/S8 - $90k
Mercedes S - $94k
BMW 750 - $95k
Jaguar XJ/XJR - $97k
Porsche Panamera - $114k
Maserati Quattroporte - $144
The number of V8 sports and supercars actually seems to be growing, possibly at the cost of V10 and V12 cars.
Aston Martin Vantage
Audi R8
Bentley Continental/Flying Spur
Bentley Mulsanne
Ferrari California
Ferrari 458
Jaguar F Type
Maserait Gran Turismo
McLaren 650S
McLaren P1
Mercedes SLK 55 AMG
Mercedes SL
Mercedes AMG GT
Porsche 918
How about engines with more than eight cylinders? It's a pretty small pool. For deca-cylinder vehicles there's the iconic Viper and the VAG cousins. I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before the R8 replaces the V10 with a turbo eight.
Dodge Viper
Audi R8
Lamborghini Huracan
There's still a handful of twelve cylinder cars roaming the land.
Aston Martin V12 Vantage
Aston Martin DB9
Aston Martin Vanquish
Audi A8
BMW 760
Ferrari FF
Ferrari F12
Ferrari LaFerrari
Bentley Continental/Flying Spur
Lamborghini Aventador
Mercedes S
Mercedes SL
Aston Martin Rapide
This list is cars only, no trucks/suvs/cuvs, because I think that's more interesting. I've left off boutique manufacturers, the kind of car makers who sell less than 20 units per year in the states. Notable examples: Morgan, Nobel, Koenigsegg, Pagani, Bugatti, Hennessey, etc. So what did I miss? what's inaccurate?

Compacts, it was figured out pretty quickly that people wanted a V8 regardless of sanity. They started the Falcon on a six, tried offering more output in a bigger six, but acquiesced to having a V8 in the fourth year of production. The Pontiac Tempest started with the well-known NVH generating slant four, but got redrawn, and I don't even need to describe other GM compacts of a more traditional layout let alone Mopar.

Factual inconsistencies:
1) "BMW and Cadillac are going the route of turbo V6s"- I think you meant turbo 6-cylinder units. BMW is sticking with its straight-sixes
Things you missed:
1) SLK55 AMG 5.5L NA V8 w/direct injection & cylinder deactivation 415hp/398 ft-lbs, likely to be replaced by a turbocharged mill in the next generation.
2) You put the Aston Martin [V8] Vantage in the V8 category but forgot to give a mention to the V12 Vantage
3) SL550 4.7L Biturbo V8 429hp/516tq
4) SL63 AMG 5.5L Biturbo V8 577hp/664tq
5) SL65 AMG 6.0L Biturbo V12 621hp/738tq

Not sure why it should be depressing. Across the spectrum, cars are more powerful today than at any point in history (some of that is required by increased weight, but it is still a net gain). There are a lot of 4 cylinder engines that will over power the big V8s of the past, and even mid-range small cars often end up with more power than the anemic V8s of the malaise ear. You can argue about noise, but then get a V10, the world doesn't need noise pollution from daily drivers :P

Interesting to see how much more expensive vehicles with V8 engines are.
Anyone up for starting a rumor that Obama is behind this as a form of class warfare and/or radical environmentalism related to global warming? A "war" on the traditionalist, 'Murican V8 engine in favor of the effeminate, compact turbo engines from Europe where they have socialism, gays, and murderous toys (Kinder eggs) that are all against white Christians.
It is of course utter nonsense, but it would be interesting to see how many crazy people we could rile up.

I generally agree. I just felt it deserved mention because it was a longitudinal RWD V8 and not the usual transverse FWD V6 that defines most CUVs (including the Durango's competitors like Explorer and Pathfinder). If anything, it's the Magnum's replacement in many ways.

What about the pickup trucks? I used to think they'd be the last hold outs for V8 muscle, but then Ford went and introduced the EcoBoost engines. Nonetheless, the sheer number of old trucks out there (compared with Camaros or Germany luxury sedans) should provide enough eight cylinder, rear wheel drive fun for decades to come.

what would be cool is to do a sub-list breaking these out by forced induction or N/A - it'd be good to catalog the rapid disappearance of N/A motors available right now - especially in the higher cylinder count categories - it would blend nicely with your note on how V8's seem to be exploding at the cost of V12's and V10's.

Having driven the 5.o Genesis a few days ago yes, it competes with luxury sedans, not sporty cars. The nearly inaudible nature of the engine, the massive weight, numb steering and lazy throttle response even in "sport" mode are reminders that the v8 in this context is a total waste.
It actually has fantastic turn-in below 40 mph but who cares when you can't feel anything?

I think absolutely it competes with them. In price maybe not but in the driving experience it does. Just as how Lexus came into the luxury market with the LS at a much lower price point than the comparable MB, Hyundai is doing the same. And yes the quality of the Genesis is definitely up to par with the GS for example.

What part of "no trucks" did you not understand in the article? Last paragraph.
I see that 'reading comprehension' is no longer required to graduate certain schools.

How have you left Bugatti off the list when they don't even make a 8 or 10 or 12cylinder car?

the audi v10 pictured is from a c6 s6 or a d3 s8 not an r8. They are the same displacement but are surprisingly different

Depends if you consider that a crossover or SUV.
