Or rather, not cranking. Thanks Jeep, not like I wanted to get to work on time. Seriously, it was -10 out last week and you started up no problem, but now that it's a nice warm 6 degrees, time to die? Cool. Now I won't even feel bad when the new car gets here. Don't give me that derpy face, you had your chance.

So, how many years past the expiration date is the battery?

One thing I have to say about the Cavalier is that it loves to start first crank everytime. Whatever GM has done...the L61 is a bullet proof mofo!!!
(He said last wordsingly as it suffers some random catastrophic failure lol).

I certainly hope they didn't sell me an expired battery just over a year ago.

get the hammer out and bang the crap out of that solenoid. And if you got a cheap battery, I have gotten them that have lasted a year before I had a dead cell. Is it clicking?

Yup, was clicking. Had to take a cab, I'll deal with it later. Cab driver asked if I was going to high school :/

General rule of thumb - assume someone is younger than you think. Works better on people you know to be older but you flatter more by calling people younger than older. Cab driver knew how to play that game :P

My XJ struggles starting regardless of the temperature. Loosening the starter fixed that a little. So did coercing it with $1400 worth of lift and bumpers. Temperamental creatures, Cherokees.

Yea, I'm not ticked, I did have a backpack with me instead of a laptop briefcase.

I helped a friend replace glow plugs on his PowerStroke 7.3 on Monday-Tuesday, but it seems that after sitting since Saturday, the battery had crept down too far to start it yesterday. Or something else was wrong. FOOOOOORRRDD....

Look, sometimes an XJ just wants to sleep in on a cold morning.

I would have suspected the HEUI-and-glow-plugs gang connectors, but since the glow system to my knowledge cycled just fine, at least one was good. I think.

My XJ has been fine starting up in this cold, but the clutch and shifter are like they are in molasses. Had to let it warm up for a good 10 mins before I could shift.

In a system that requires warm oil to supply the fuel, only bad things can come of it in the cold.

Yea, this is pretty out of character for mine, started up first try all last winter and this one till this morning. Same on the trans too, mine's an auto but I still give it 5 minutes or so to warm up the slush.

Our recent addition to the family, a '98 XJ Classic auto, has only started "first crank" five times since purchasing last Sept (we live in Vegas)... Yes I'm counting. Replaced battery (nope), replaced starter (nope), sweet talked (nope) and I even tried rubbing the back of the steering wheel! Ugh.

If the Cherokee had an Oh Shit Handle, I would suggest rubbing that. Yours might, being one with the revised interior.
