Kinja'd!!!

So, the other day, some kid decided to pull back the BMW's mirror while I was sitting in traffic earlier last week. That little bastard managed to run away just as the light went green. Ever since then, it's been unfolding wrongly, and looks retarded like below every time I unlock the car (I have to pull it back to the normal position). I've been told there isn't a fix for it unless I get a new mirror.

I do every time I take the Bimmer for a drive., and hear the motor on the left side buzzing away. My mother is panicking badly every time.

hahaha holy shit. I don't get why it's so funny, it looks absolutely hilarious though. Given that it's motor run? I am assuming the gearmotor doesn't have a hall effect in it to tell it where it's at (cheapass bimmer why the fuck u no buy hall effect).

I would assume you could disassemble it and get it back into alignment.

BMW drivers don't use their mirrors anyway.

(SORRYSORRYSORRY)

Wow I'm surprised it would need to be replaced. Is that what the dealer told you?

I've tried getting it back into alignment by closing it and opening it back up again. It goes past the tabs meant to stop it.

Local specialist that I brought it in for an E-Test, the guy said unless I cut the wire, I'd likely need a new mirror.

Hm, may have broken some limit switches or something then? I'd still try opening it up to see. Can't imagine that'll be more expensive than needing a whole new mirror.

All you need to do is put it back in the correct spot by hand. It will work right after that.

Weird, I had the same thing happen on mine multiple times and it fixed it every time . It's hard to imagine him knocking it the wrong way permanently broke something internal.

Try the procedure here, and if not, then something mechanical is broken.

I did just that, and read from that exact thread. It seems to pass by the notches every time. I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Do your best to get it in place, and unhook the power.. Yes it's a standard sidemirror, but do you really need to replace it?..... Probably not.
