"505Turbeaux" (505turbeaux)

I have assembled here a list of things I am ordering for the 505 just to have for my trip down. Anyone who says "oh you cant get parts" and "oh that must be expensive when you have to find parts" doesn't know what they are talking about. My Turbo S was a bit more for parts, but still not bad. The simple STi is just ridiculous how cheap it is, and this makes me happy. Also notable are brake calipers with no core for $20, ball joints for 8 bucks, brake rotors for 16 bucks. Oh man I need to replace something...*raids couch cushions*
this was a pleasant surprise. 45 bucks for a tune up minus the plugs, timing belt, drive belts, and brake pads front and rear

I had this argument with my dad so many times when I was younger about buying a foreign car. Once I bought my e36 and showed him the actual cost of parts he changed his tune. It's a global economy these days, and regardless of where it came from, if they made a lot of them, it is going to be cheap to fix.

Rockauto is the best website in the world. I can get any part for my MR2 from it, including parts that have been impossible to find forever.

Do you also need a belt installation tool?
RockAuto and I will be good friends if I ever get my car back on the road.

absolutley, and there are a ton of 504/505 still running around Africa, and will be for a long time to come. Especially the 2.0l, and oddly, they love the autobox too over there

yeah, no shit. I could do it with shocks, tie rods, and ball joints for under 50

Yeah, that was the other thing that surprised me apart from the fact that I can get any part. They're all stupid cheap, even for the good stuff. I try to stick with Beck/Arnley and similar for replacement parts, but it's cheaper on rockauto for the good stuff than the cheap stuff is anywhere else.

Rockauto was awesome for my 300TD. Have to say their commercials are a little odd though.

yes they sure are. They are great for the 123's as well. I think SLS accumulators for the wagons cannot be bought for cheaper than you can there. I think you have to search by part number though

Between Rockauto and Autohauz there was no part I couldn't find.

I still have a garage full of parts for 123's too, but no more 300D/300TD etc etc. Some day

Rockauto has interesting stuff but their shipping costs to Finland are annoyingly high. I tried to find some stuff and thought that it might be more cost effective to buy plenty of stuff. It wasn't as everything seemed to have almost the same shipping price if I bought them separately or with something else.

Look, I am absolutely a huge fan of Rockauto. I order from them at least once a month.
But it is also true that you get what you pay for and they don't always carry the best brand for the particular part you're looking for. Yes I can get a brand new CV axle for my Subaru for $60 with no core from RockAuto. No, I would never actually order that part.

yeah, but even the good brands are cheaper than Advance Auto's cheapest

Yeah, I like Advance Auto because they're local (from my hometown) but I only use them when I need a part today and when I use one of their 40-50% off coupons. Even with the 40% off coupons RockAuto is usually cheaper.
Amazon, believe it or not, has recently been pretty clutch for my automotive needs.

I found wheel cylinders on Amazon for my 504 diesel wagon a few years back - FOR FIVE DOLLARS EACH. Ha yeah I worked for Advance in college a long time ago when they were expanding into the northeast. Some junky parts in the low line stuff. I dont even think they have a Peugeot lookup anymore

A lot of DIY clients of ours use these guys, and have good results. I don't blame them. Rockauto, AutohausAZ, ECS Tuning, et al are a boon to the DIY sector. Their prices are almost unbeatable, sometimes even beating my cost through Worldpac, IMC, and others, and we spend over 12k/month with Worldpac so have a pretty good price break. I've read through their policies too, and if they made a few tweaks, bumped the warranty to at least 2/24 across the board, and had the same day/next morning delivery options or prepaid freight, I'd use them for the shop, no questions asked.
The new reality is customer supplied parts, one of several reasons I think the repair industry is unsustainable in anything like its current form. I won't and can't do it for everyone, but with some well-known & trustworthy clients it's no problem as long as they understand the parts warranty is on them.

I used to always run it at time and materials + no warranty myself. SOMETIMES but usually it is just a pain in the ass.

As long as you are willing to put in the legwork to make sure you get the right parts, there are some STUPID low prices on Rockauto.
But having said that, some parts are so plentiful that they are dirt cheap anyplace. On my VW for example, rear hubs with pre-installed bearing and ABS tone ring are $25 or less anywhere. I could have ordered them from Rockauto but they only cost $3 more at Autozone and they had them in stock.

I scooped up a set last fall. They look as good as OE and definitely better that what I got on there, especially after this winter. AM-Auto is one of those, "let me check and see what they have" before I go to Rockauto or another retailer. Especially with free shipping on all orders and a TEN YEAR WARRANTY on most parts.
You are a Passat guy right? $153 for all this. 10 year warranty. That is crazy.

wow awesome. I use FCPEuro.com too, they are good dudes, and the free shipping always has it on my doorstep the next day. Mainly for Volvos, but VW/Audi is a good deal too
