A couple of pushers from WWII. Neither was successful.

My mother warned me about pushers

Then, of course, you have the Dornier Do 335. A bit of everything.

Something about bailing out of a pusher-prop fighter seems somewhat intimidating, and potentially fruitless. I'm not sure what.

I can see problems here, not the least of which is that the pilot is sitting directly in front of the Kraftstoff Hauptbehalter and has an engine with doubtful cooling directly behind that just to keep it warm.

I thought of that last night when I scheduled this post. I thought of following up with "push-me-pull-you". They've got one of these at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. It's one of my favorite planes. Inverted 12s FTW.

That's a new one for me. Neat.

Best plan - carry a hand grenade to shred the prop with. I kid, but blow-away rotors have been used on helicopters in the past. In this case, if you had any time whatsoever, hopefully you'd be able to feather the prop - I'm taking as an article of faith that these had variable pitch, which they may not have.

Just needs a couple of jet engines hanging off the wings!

I've said that numerous times. For example, they don't have a B-29 painted like the Enola Gay, they have THE Enola Gay. I've got a bunch of pictures from my last trip there if you want to check them out.

The Ascender did have a propeller jettison control for use in event of a bailout.

It wasn't until you mentioned it here that I learned it's the only one left in the world. Wow.

"Curtiss-Wright XP-55 Ascender"
Was "Ascender" a clever way to clean up the phrase "ass-ender"?

Hah! I doubt it, but you never know. The trouble was, though, that the XP-55 did a bit more descending than ascending. The original prototype, the CW-24, looked like something out of a Flash Gordon movie.

No kidding, it's a beautiful design. Too bad they couldn't work out the gremlins.

Canards never fail to be awesome, also love the vertical stabilizers integrated into the wings. I can't believe I've never heard of this thing, so ahead of it's time.
It's like a steampunk Starship.

The Starship is such a beautiful aircraft. It's a shame they weren't more successful.
