This was a fun craigslist find. I always love a good late 40's Pontiac. Cars just used to have so much more style.

Yeah, I could do some magic with that. Gotta love the straight 8. Flatheads are the boss.
Alas, no money or space for more projects. Hope she goes to a good home.

Yes they did. But only because no one wanted to do any technology so its a wash.
I can't purchase the car though; too much chrome for me to handle.

The chrome missing on the front hood is pause for concern

I never understood where brands like Pontiac, Plymouth, and Oldsmobile stood in the Detroit hierarchies. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Plymouth (Basic)
Dodge (Average)
Desoto (Upper middle)
Chrysler (Luxury)
GM
Oldsmobile (Basic)
Chevrolet (Average)
Pontiac (Upper Middle)
Cadillac (Luxury)
At least that is how I remember it.

Hmm, I might have to disagree on the Olds placement. My grandfather (on my dad's side) is/was a doctor (he doesn't have a practice anymore, but still edits the journals and visits conventions) and he was an Oldsmobile guy before becoming an Audi guy (he's one of those people who sticks with a brand for years). So I'd kinda assumed that Olds was aimed at that "affluent" level between Buick and Cadillac, and Chevy was for the workin' man.

I totally forgot about Buick. There are just too many GM products back in the day.
