Sure, the Edge version looks pretty slick, but If they had any balls, they would've made the Galaxy S6 Edge, the only Galaxy S6.
I don't see why they wouldn't just have the one that's curved, they brag about being innovative and pushing the envelope, but they are afraid of such a little change.
I guess I will stay with Team Xperia, until someone has the guts to do take a few small risks.

It's bad enough clicking the right side of the screen on a normal phone, I don't think I'd be able to use this.

Well samsung just lost me when I upgrade. The reasons I picked the S5 were because of the removable battery, micro sd slot, and waterproof capabilities! Samsung just went, "Humm what makes people want to buy our phones? Whatever it is we should get rid of it!" I guess the xperia z3 is in my future.

removable storage, waterproofing, AND removable battery. Whoever came up with that idea is an idiot.

I remember when phone design changed almost every year, just for the sake of it, and there were big differences from manufacturer to manufacturer. They were actually trying out new stuff.
I liked that time.

Ewww. That's one thing I love about my SIII: 128GB of removable storage, on top of the 16gigs of internal. I really hope this doesn't become a trend.

The lack of waterproofing & a microSD slot, the smaller non-removable battery, and the S6 Edge's rumored ~$1,000 starting price strike me as big risks already. I figure that Samsung will sell the S6 Edge as a niche product while they sell curved-display variants of cheaper models ("Another day, another Galaxy", right?) so as to get the drop on Xiaomi.

I guess they fell for the silliness about 'cheap' plastic/'expensive' aluminium and form over function. When it comes time to replace my '11 Galaxy Nexus this S6 won't exactly be on top of my wish list.

I recently joined "Team Xperia" with a Z3. My #1 criteria when I was shopping for my first touchscreen smartphone? Expandable storage. That eliminated the iPhone, Nexus, HTC and more. And now Samsung?
Oddly, this is the same day SanDisk announced a 200GB microSD .

Don't worry, you can always get a Z3, that has both a micro SD slot(up to 128GB) and waterproofing.

Galaxy S5 is not waterproof, unless you get it in the Active trim. And I suggest you wait a little, as they will most certainly release a Z4 this year.

When you say that , what I hear is: I'm a xenophobe with a neo-colonialist mindset, who won't accept designs that come from a fundamentally different, non-Western culture, as valid, original attempts, to design a phone that expresses that respective culture. I like when Asian brands copy Western brands or do boring and beige vanilla designs, because then I can point my finger at them, laugh and feel good about being born in 'murica(even if I had no actual contribution to it) .
You can deny it all you want, but that's the way it is.
And btw, I'm not Korean(or even Asian), but the attitude of some of my fellow 'muricans is just unsupportable.
I like that phone, very clean and metallic.

True, but most of the design changes were pointless gimmicks that either did nothing or barely worked, at least if you're talking about the pre smartphone era. As far as hardware changes are concerned, the only ones that really mattered were the invention of the flip phone (undone by smart phones), the addition of the camera, and the QWERTY keyboard, which was of course superseded by software. Slider phones sort of stuck too, but proved to be as equally pointless at the flip phone.
Pre iPhone it was basically Blackberry (maybe Palm treo) or go home. If you didn't need the proto–smartphone features then it was Motorola Razr. Before that it was Nokia 6340 or go home. Sure people were experimenting with stuff, but even then everyone knew that it was mostly bullshit or a matter of taste.
To go to the other side of the argument though, I'm wondering in what directions current phone manufacturers could branch out in terms of design. I actually really liked the concept they had in the film Her , where the smartphones were sort of like a clamshell design. This opens up the possibility of protecting the screen(s), and creating a flexible user interface where you can fold it back and use one screen like a traditional smartphone, or open it up and have two screens for greater real estate/multitasking.

When your phone is laying flat on a table and someone calls, the idea is that you'll be able to see the color, know exactly who's calling
Uhh, when my non–curved phone is laying flat on a table I can also see exactly who is calling. The reviewer pointed to literally two marginally useful features of the curved edge. I guess I agree with him in that it's sort of proven it has a right to exist, but at this moment in time it still seems a little pointless.

Doesn't work that way, I have a phone made by an Asian manufacturer, without being Asian myself. And I was pointing out the lack of a progressive attitude towards implementing new designs, I didn't went all "t
his looks shit in a blender, kill it with fire before I vomit on my screen".

Actually, it isn't, you can define xenophobia as having double standards towards things that come from your culture and things that don't come from your culture.

That's silly. Why not offer the S6 only with a curved display, and use the money you saved from not having to build two S6 models, to accelerate the implementation of curved displays on cheaper models.
The Chinese companies are gaining ground fast, and established Android OEM's need to be more bullish on design innovations, if they want to keep their edge.

You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Perhaps. I've always found Android to have too many features I will never use. Apparently, software isn't the problem with Samsungs - it's the hardware. My dad spoke with people at my local service provider and it turns out that Samsungs are often returned and changed by two years, by then which they've become terribly slow.

This is why I'm happy with my LG G3. Decent camera (13MP, and 4K video) with laser focus, 5.5" screen, qHD LCD (unfortunately not LED) display, very small side bezels, which creates a smaller footprint. Even with my Otterbox Defender case, it's not overly unwieldy. Plus, 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage, expandable up to 128GB microSD card, and a removable battery. Yeah, it's not perfect, and it messes up every so often, but it's definitely a solid phone, and it runs Android 5 without any major issues. I love it. Something you should look into.
I like Samsung, but I feel like this is a step backwards for them.

I got Sony phones for my last three contact renewals(S,Z and Z3), LG design and lack of waterproofing keeps me away from the brand.
I have to say that the G Flex 2 is quite sexy and tempting, but the Z3 is still fresh for now.

The G Flex 2 does look pretty nice. And yeah, I understand the waterproof and design complaint. It's not the most attractive phone in the world, and the plastic faux-metal back on the G3 leaves something to be desired, but as I said, I have the Otterbox on it, which basically covers everything but the screen.
Though I will admit, the headphone jack sucks on it. It's on the bottom and quality is terrible.
