According to a coworker, the 2016 Ford GT will be bad because they did not put a V8 in it. A six cylinder engine has no business underneath the hood of a true sports car, and Audi should be ashamed of themselves for considering a TTV6 for the new R8.

He also doesn't care that it makes 600HP because it's still a V6. So I guess there are different kinds of horsepower now and out of all of them, six cylinder horsepowers are the worst. Somehow.

Inline 6 != flat 6 != V6.

Inline sixes and flat sixes are for gentleman and scholars.

V6s are for packaging requirements and engine-sharing across a model range.

Rabble rabble rabble.

6-cylinder cars aren't bad because they have 2 or 4 less cylinders. If you can make a 6-Cyl. perform just as well or better than a V8 or V10, why not use it?

However, he does have a point. A 6-cyl. will be nowhere near as satisfying as a big V8 or V10. I love Audi's supercharged 3.0L V6 (even though it's been sandbagged from the factory), but the sound of that 4.2L V8 is just sooo amazing.

No, he's got a point. Buy a V6 Camaro or Mustang and we will mock you. The Ecoboost V6 F150 gets V8 mileage with 4cyl. towing capacity. The H6 SVX sold poorly and ate transmissions. A V6 Caprice isn't as good as even a 305 V8 Caprice. Hardly anyone swaps a 4.3l Vortec into their hot rod when you can put a 350 Chevy in it. The 6G72 swap for my truck is far less popular than the 4G63T. Pretty much unless you have a Fiero (3800 Supercharged) or a 90s FWD Ford/Mazda (KLZE), you don't swap a V6 in.

In fact, even certain kinds of 6 cylinder horsepower is inferior to others. Why would you build a VQ35 when you can build an RB26 or L28? You skip the GM 3400 in favor of the 3800 Series II.

Also I'm trolling. Your coworker is dumb.

I'm sorry, but your co-worker is right. They are all shitty and should be pulled from the market. My backyard would make an amazing dumping ground to save the public from those 6 cylinder frauds. So long as they leave the keys and sign the titles over to me.

I think your coworker would only change their mind after being put in a race against the Ford GT(40) and whatever V8 car they bring. It seems that level of ignorance killing is needed.

BTW, the car still hasn't been tested yet. We don't know what HP it will have (but more than likely more than 600HP)

What your coworker probably meant to say:

"I think the new GT really should have a V8. 2 more cylinders = 10,000x more 'Murica."

And I do agree with that sentiment, I really think the car deserved a V8. A friend and I went rounds about this, comparing a 3.5L V6TT to the outgoing 5.4L Supercharged. She was in favor of the V6, but I was able to shut her down on every single point - there's no significant difference in terms of weight, packaging, etc. The V6 might get a small nod in terms of fuel economy, but in a super car, who cares?

Hell, if it were up to me I'd use the existing 4.6L mod motor and stroke it a hair to make 289 cubic inches to harken back to Fords roots, then slap a pair of snails on it to get the power you want. It does hurt the weight argument, but in this particular car I'd sacrifice a bit of weight for 2 more cylinders. Or tune up that slick new flat-plane crank'd 5.2L in the Mustang 350GT - it's only pushing 100HP/L, theres some room left to grow.

And the thing is, this is all pointless, it's probably not going to be a bad car by any stretch. Likely, it will be a great car, and people will still buy it regardless of cylinder count.
