Because here's one for $13,000.

Ignore the faux-wood interior, because A.) it's from Callaway and B.) is an an easy fix if you really can't stand it. The rest of the car, though...

Damn.

Ill have to tell Reeves about this. He might cry. In 87 I might have been at the factory as this car was being built

Did they build a whole bunch at once or were they sprinkled around as orders came in? Were you on factory tour or were you there for work?

The B2K is absolutely fascinating to me. Arguably, more unique than the C4 ZR-1 as it's the only instance of a third-party tuner package on the Corvette being offered by GM and backed by a factory warranty. Also, those turbochargers.

Seriously.

If this had been a thing when I was looking at ZR-1s, I'd have been a hot mess trying to decide between the two. On one hand, LT5 and wide body. On the other hand, Atari dash and motherfucking turbochargers .

Whoever buys this, is buying an investment. No doubt in my mind.

I was young at that time, we were touring the factory with the boy scouts. I would call it a bunch in production at once, but streamlined for sure. I remember being in awe of the whole operation. Then I used to go back and hang around later in life. Hell of an operation there. I have a friend who has an a1 Jetta DIESEL back home that was Callaway turbocharged on special order. In brown. Next time I am back Ill likely see him and take some pics.

My Scout troop never did anything neat like that. Just the usual camping and mucking around. :(

How potent is the Callaway work on that Jetta? Because that sounds absolutely hilarious.

It pulls, it will smoke the shit out of an 84 turbo diesel. Literally smoke, you know. Haha it does pull really well. It is so period awesome as not to be believed. Mk1 Scirocco rims, Kamei air dam. No lowering at all. Just brown with beige interior. Still gets like 40 mpg too flogging on it

Damn. You'll have to post video of that when you see him, because that sounds like something everybody here would love to watch! A Callaway Diesel Jetta. Who knew? Anybody who orders that is nuts...and I want to buy him a beer for it!

Reeves was putting out some crazy shit when he was figuring out how to build fast cars.

Here I was looking for beater C4s because race car , and this unicorn shows up.

Somebody is going to make out like a bandit on this car and, in another 10 or 15 years, have a real jewel on his or her hands.

WANT. I've always found these to be some of the most interesting C4s. I'm honestly amazed you found one of these.

Finding one isn't hard. They pop up on AutoTrader, CarsForSale.com, and UsedCorvettesForsale.com regularly. The thing is, they tend to trade from the mid 20s to mid 30s. What is astonishing is the asking price on this one. His [tasteful] aftermarket additions (the wood interior is from Callaway) don't seem like they should be hammering it that hard, the miles are low, and he says it drives great...

Maybe it was a typo? I like to think the owner is just being magnanimous.

I really only look on Craigslist, so I guess that would explain my troubles in finding one.

While I really don't like his modifications (the wood gets a pass, and I really don't mind it anyways), I would agree, there is no reason it should be this low in price. The few that I've seen usually have more miles than this example, and the asking price was much more. The only two explanations I can think of are that, a) It was a typo on his part or, b) He really needs to get rid of it, hence the low price. If I had the money to afford it, I would absolutely love to snatch this up.

On a side note, how's the ZR-1? You really haven't mentioned it in a while.

I try not to toot on the ZR-1 too much unless I have to to make my point, since everybody on FP assumes everybody else drives, at best, a hot hatch of some variety. That, or one of the authors baits me into mentioning it by posting about ZR-1s...

That said, it's got a semi-serious coolant leak coming from somewhere, so she's grounded. I'm hoping it's just an old hose because then I can just get it when I go in to replace the oil-cooler lines. Waiting for warmer weather to do all this stuff.

In the meantime, the '96 is my reliable, ever-present friend. Returning to it after driving the ZR-1 for awhile, I'm reminded that, while it is free-spinning and absolutely glorious, the LT5 is also a massive brick. It weighs in at around 600 pounds, while the LT4 sits around 450. In total, the ZR-1 has about 300 pounds more than the '96, most of it up front. The ZR-1 is precise and deliberate in its motions, while the '96 is a bit darty and much more tossable in the corners.

The two cars are just so very different in personality.
